COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Visible as a dark patch in the star clouds of the Milky Way, Coalsack is the most prominent dark nebula in the night sky. As is its inspiration, Coalsack Cascadian Dark Ale is striking deep black. Citrus, pine and resinous hop aromas and flavors from an aggressive helping of Pacific Northwest hops are balanced with a sweet malt profile and subtle roast notes. The hop bitterness leads to a dry quenching finish. IBU 68 ABV 6.2% GRAVITY 15°P

22oz from "Lifesource" in Salem OR. $4.99 Dark brown in colour with ruby accents ,with a large rocky, bubbly tan head. Piney, resiny hop aromas..with a good toasted malt backing..nice. Hops are more fruity then resiny in the taste and balanced by some nice coffee/dark chocolate malts..well balanced but not boring at all. Well balanced also in the mouth feel..nice and smooth low to medium carbonation. Nice CDA.

Looking forward to this. Ever so slightly underhopped. More hoppy porter than black IPA, though the body and especially color were pretty light. I like what was going on here, just needed it to be a little bigger

Bottle. Pours reddish-brown with a small foamy head that fades normally and leaves good lacing. Aroma is stale hops mixed with some light roast and chocolate. Tastes moderately bitter with some sharp pine hops. Only a light roast comes through. This tastes a bit old. Bottling date didn’t stamp right. Maybe I’ll revisit at some point with a fresher bottle.

Dark brown, clear, off-white head. Light chocolate, light toast, an earthy note, moderate piney hops. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark brown in color, clear with a thin tan head. Nice dark malt and good hops backing. I was impressed with this CDA.

Interesting brew. On tap at the brewery. Pours a ruddy dark amber color, not black, with a medium white head. A light nose of fruity hops, some yeast and citrus. The flavor is caramel, toasted malts, some pine, smoke, grainy, overall, dry, robust fruity hops throughout. Smooth. Good.

On tap at Ecliptic. Colour...very dark brown with a thick off white head. Nose...nicely hoppy with citrus notes and slight pine. Palate...quite frothy with plenty of hop character up front and plenty of malt for balance. Some biscuit notes hit the mid palate and crushed hop leaves make their presence known on the back of the palate. Nicely done!

Draught at the brewery during Zwickelmania 2014. Medium dark brown, 2-cm rocky tan head. Good roast malt with background pine/citrus hop mix. Solid bitter finish. Medium body. Smooth, well-balanced stuff overall. Gentle and tasty.

On draught at Ecliptic Brewing during Zwickelmania 2014. Dark brown amber color. Tropical fruit and citrus hop aroma with roasted dark malt notes. Taste is tart tropical fruit and citrus with a backbone of dark roasted malting. Potent hops balanced with the malts.
