The very first beer we ever brewed, in winter, before we had full power supply, hence the name. It’s a Belgian classic fermented at high temperatures to bring out all those great saison yeast characteristics. Big aromas of fruit and spice carry through into the flavor. The result is hearty and complex, yet wholly drinkable.

Tap at Amboss Rampe. A hoppy amd strong saison, a bit bready, quite heavy, long bitterness. Rather feels like an IPA, actually.

Hazy orange color with tan head. Spicy, lemony, peaches, bread, caramel. Taste is caramel, lemony, schwarzbrot, a bit grainy, a bit peppery, dry finish. Oily mouthfeel. Very heavy and malt forward for a Saison.

Draft. An amber beer with a huge yellowish head. The aroma has notes of spices, lemons, straw, and caramel. The flavor is very sweet with notes of lemons, spices, alcohol, oranges, and dusty hops, leading to a bitter finish.

Bottle. Light amber, hazy, large and mostly lasting head. Moderate, malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish aroma, caramel and some fruitiness, light citrus with light vegetables - sourness, light herbal hoppyness. Body is medium, malty - lightly wheaty and sweetish flavor, caramel and some fruitiness, light citrus and faint spiciness (coriander?), faint hoppyness. Finish is average, malty - faint wheat and sweetish, caramel and light fruitiness, light citrus and faint spiciness, faint - light herbal hoppyness. Caramel sweetish "saison" with notes of vegetables in aroma. Lacks almost totally bitternes (and character). For those with sweet tooth. Not very enjoyable. Nice head though.

0,33l bottle at Vienna Food Festival. BB 08/16. amber hazy color, small off white head. smells sour, citric, light leather, barnyard, green apples. Full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. Tastes herbal, citric, acidic, green apples, some sweetness, slight leather. Finishes with citric and herbal notes. Lovely beer, smell suggested quiet a bit of sourness, but taste has good balance, rather unique, but i quite like it.

Sampled from Al’s glass at Beer Temple. Pours an ugly red color with small to medium head. Aroma and taste is mostly malt, sweet fruit, pepper and a touch of grainy hop. Too high in alcohol. Wasn’t worthy of a purchase.

I picked this up not knowing much about Edge Brewing other than that they recently showed up on the shelves here in northeastern Ohio. As is typical with imports the prices trend to the high end but not as bad as some Italian ones. If you’ve got a desire to see what’s going on Spain these days but can’t afford a trip this seems like a solid starting point.

Aroma / Appearance - A surging head foams upwards and then takes a few minutes to calm. Liquid the color of pureed apples fills the glass with a rich bronze hue. Fresh apple sauce, hay, and sweet cider bring to mind a solid saison in the traditional spirit.

Flavor / Palate - Hay, earth, and yeasty apples tickle the palate at first before blossoming into a full bodied experience of dry starch. Peppery textures carry to an earthy conclusion with a long lasting profile. For the cost this is a great way to discover the Old World’s attempts at new styles.

Draft @ Hoppy Loft.
