Our CHOICE OLD WALNUT BROWN uses Brown, Amber and our traditionally made floor malts in this flavoursome ale. At 6% it reflects the strength of ales being produced at the turn of the 19th Century. Using the traditional malts of our time, our ale has the distinct nutty palate, and walnut coloured hue, of this flavoursome historical style.

[500ml bottle from Tuckers Maltings, Newton Abbott] Pours dark brown with a negligible head and no carbonation. Tia Maria aroma. Sweet black coffee continues into the flavour, balanced well against the bitterness of burnt roasted malt. Some chocolate and cough mixture in the finish. Very smooth and easy to drink - the alcohol is (dangerously) not apparent at all. Good stuff.

Bottle purchase from Tuckers Maltings online. Poured a very dark brown with no head, aroma mostly of malts and some nuttiness as well? Taste is similar nutty, roasty, quite distinguished very decent again from Teignworthy.

500ml bottle BB Sep 2017, into a pint glass. Looks almost exactly like cola, just a ring of white head with no lacing. Aroma has cardboard, bisto granules, yeast, some dark chocolate. Body is medium, smooth, low carbonation. Taste is bourbon biscuit, more dry hazelnut than walnut, a bit of tangy metal towards the finish. Nice enduring musty roasted coffee-ish aftertaste. Decent Sunday night sipping beer. 3.4 was my original thought, though I may be being harsh.

Bottle. Mahogany brown with tan head than thins but laces well. Malt and coffee aroma. Taste quite sweet also nutty with chocolate coffee finishing roasty bitter. Low carbonation. Thin to medium mouthfeel. It is not bad if you are a brown ale fan but a little too sweet.

Appearance: Dark chestnut brown in colour with a small off-white head, good lacing. No visible carbonation. Aroma: Nutty roasted malts, with a hint of coffee and chocolate. Noticeable hops, with slight burnt aromas. Taste: Bitter hops on the palete at first. There are clear nutty flavours, roast chestnuts. The malts are toasty, and warming, providing chocolate flavours. Mouthfeel: Quite heavy in body, with a clinging oily texture. Drinkability: A good classic ale from a quality independent brewery. They have managed to provide an ale with brilliantly balanced flavours, and a moreish quality.
