3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 ALLOVATE (1711) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - APR 12, 2012
Cask, handpump @ The Horse & Jockey workers bar, Tucker’s Maltings, Newton Abbot, Devon. Bright copper with a sloppy white crown that holds and laces well. Rough, raw and rich malt nose; toasted honey notes meet grainy, cereal-like and haystack grains. A little fruit present reminiscent of passionfruit. Light bodied, good feel, dry and relatively bitter in the back. Quite herbal and floral with a late burst of citrus that adds a quench to the swallow. Lingers well between sips. A good malt backbone of pine, toasted wholemeal and straw aids in keeping this a genuinely dry ale overall, yet it is remarkably refreshing.Very well balanced between malt and hop. A solid Bitter. Bottle from Tucker’s Maltings, Newton Abbot, Devon. Pours a bright orange copper with lots of fine carbonation. Big, big rocky plume builds and holds well to leave rings of white down the glass. Grainy, granola and floral, earthy nose with just a touch of pear and passionfruit. Quite malty sweet as opposed to the cask version, with a grainy mid-palate. Light bodied with delicate hopping in back adding a rose garden to the senses. Finish is dry, earthy with more rose petals and clippings. Not much length at first but some straw and hop leaves build. A good session Bitter. Very well balanced. On a different level to the cask version, but still an enjoyable brew. (50cL, BBE 08/12)

Bottle. Golden with a fluffy white head. Aromas are toast, lemon and dusty grain. Flavours are dry, yeasty with some grapefruit pithy bitterness. Apricot sweetness and jammy marmalade. Gets better the further down the glass you get.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 wheresthepath (1087) - Buckinghamshire, ENGLAND - JUL 12, 2009
[500ml bottle from Tuckers Maltings, Newton Abbot] Pours a dirty amber-gold with a lasting creamy white head. Little carbonation. Smells pleasantly malty. Initially thirst-quenching. Taste is of digestive biscuits with a dry, bitter and slightly sour finish that leaves you wanting more beer - preferably a completely different beer. I didn’t enjoy this one much.

Fresh, clean, malt flavour with light fruity and caramel tones and light finishing bitterness. Medium-light body with gentle, fair carbonation. Bottle (fresh at Tucker’s Maltings).
