3.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 tiggmtl (4475) - Vancouver, - SEP 25, 2005
Sweet caramel malt aroma with plenty of toasted notes and some fruity esters in the aroma. Clear, copper coloured body is topped by a low, off-white head that recedes to thick and lasting ring. Dried fruit, caramel malts and fairly strong finishing bitterness with some floral hop tones. Somewhat grainy aftertaste. Medium body with lively carbonation that prickles the tongue and cheeks. Bottle (BB 012007, Tucker’s Maltings).
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20 ALLOVATE (1711) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - APR 12, 2012
Bottle, Tucker’s Maltings, Newton Abbott, Devon. Very angry pour. Like a mushroom cloud the head lifts up a good inch and a half out the lip of the pint glass and holds there, fuelled by the madness below. The body an orange copper and just off bright. The aroma has wonderfully bright citrus fruit, Valencia, tangerines, grapefruit, orange zest, rose water, light camphor and eucalypt and just a little honeyed grain. Very soft mouthfeel (go figure!), well rounded, meaty in body and bountiful in flavour. More citrus, the aroma dominating the palate; its tangy, fruity and juicy and near bursting with esters. Floral, grassy and herbal back with a welcome hop bitterness to the swallow that sees it peak and drop off all hops in the aftertaste. Malty mid-palate equally as fresh as the hops, grainy, sweet and cereal like, balancing this out well. I loved it, from first sip to dreaded last. Goes down just as good as it warms. A wonderfully refreshing bitter that showcases the malt and hops with artisinal respect. Lovely! (50cL, BBE 10/12)

Bottled. Amber colour, mediumsized white head. Aroma is wooden, toffeeish, slightly strange notes as well. Flavour is a bunch of fruits, some toffee, wood and also some slight floral notes. The flavour has kept surprisingly well considering the BBE was in 2007!

Quite bitter but with no real sharpness.
Lacks complexity and depth. Bland and rather dissapointing.
