3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bought at Cask Pub & Kitchen Pimlico, 650ml bottle. This was recommended to me as a good session/quaffing IPA with high drinkablitly. Pours out deep copper with an off-white/yellow-beige head with good density and staying power. Aroma jumps from the glass, first up a hint of hops but then overrun by vanilla and big caramel notes. Smelling further releases more in the way of sticky fudge and caramalt with underlying citrus character, a hint of lychee and custard. Flavour is more of the same, very clean though compared to the nose. Fresh citrus, orange zest and lemon come to mind, encased in lots of honeyed caramel malt, a touch of yeastiness, warm fresh baked bread, doughnuts and a hint of spiciness. Finish is once again =very clean, almost a tad thin, not too bitter and nicely balanced.
All in all I think the body could do with being a bit richer, it is highly drinkable but almost surfs the line as being a tad bland and linear. It lacks the complexity of some brilliant IPA’s, but then I suppose this is what gives the beer such a good session/repeat-drinking feel. The description sums it up really, its caramely, not overly hoppy clean and fresh and would go down very nicely time and time again. But I have to say I like a little more aggression, even in my quaffable beers, this is just a little too tame, but nice all the same. Well balanced at the end of the day.
