COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
No other beer shows off what malts can do in a beer better than porter. Certified Organic Porter uses a complex blend of five malts that compliment and highlight one another in a harmonious mixture. Only one addition of imported Pacific Gem hops is used to provide a balancing bitterness without introducing any other hop character. While decidedly in the robust porter category, Certified Organic Porter has none of the harsh character people often associate with dark ales. Instead, what one finds is a rich, smooth beer with suggestions of chocolate and just a hint of coffee. So smooth and malty, this porter will convert even the non-dark beer drinker.

BOTTLE. Pours kole beer brown with a bubbly tan head, solid carb. Cocoa, drinking choc & subtle coffee on the nose. Dark malty flavour up front with the cocoa in the middle turning into a some what sweet choc finish. Sourced Cape Cellars

355 ML from Epping Cellars Dark cola color with some ruby highlights. Light tan head, good collar that sticks around a while. Nose is roast, licorice, coffee, milk chocolate. Taste is roast, earth, coffee, milk chocolate, and lots of licorice. Medium bodied, a bit thin in stretches but great lingering bitterness. Well balanced. Does not knock your socks off but very solid and well crafted beer.

UPDATED: OCT 2, 2014 (Bottle) Very little hoppiness but lingering bitterness and astringency. There isnít really any nice dark maltiness to it. Although the aroma is of chocolate (and is really quite nice), the taste is uninteresting, thin, and muddled. Compared to other porters it has very little rich chocolate or dark fruit flavors that I look for. Iím very surprised by how well this is rated. Not a good porter.

bottle @ Jungle Jimís / Eastgate OH --- Opaque dark brown color, rocky 1" tant head that retains well, bands of lace. Taste is good roasted malt with a dose of chocolate (I donít really detect coffee). Both merge and move smoothly to a lightly bittered finish. More sweet shows the longer it lingers. A very drinkable/enjoyable light stout, somewhat rich and milky. I like it.

12 oz bottle consumed in Redwoods Park at about 55F. Nearly opaque red-brown; very good, durable tan head that leaves ample sticky lacing. Aroma: dark bread with hints of smoke, toffee and dark fruits Flavor: Follows the promise of the aroma. Moderate level of dark roasted malts flavor. Faint coffee in the aftertaste. Feel: soft medium carbonation. Near medium body.

This was poured into a pint glass. The appearance was a nice dark brown color with a one and a half white to off white foamy head that dissipated within less than a minute in a concave fashion. The lacing sticks finely to the sides of the glass. The smell has a nice sharp robust roasty coffee blended nicely with some light chocolate. The taste has a smooth rolling flavorful blend of coffee to chocolate with a nice light maltiness just rolling underneath it all. Thereís a decent rich smooth coffee to chocolate aftertaste that leads to a nice smooth sticky finish. On the palate, this one sits about a medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation is fairly low in this beer but still good for the style and for me. Overall, wow, what a nice Porter. Organic or not, I donít care, Iíd have this again.
