COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
No other beer shows off what malts can do in a beer better than porter. Certified Organic Porter uses a complex blend of five malts that compliment and highlight one another in a harmonious mixture. Only one addition of imported Pacific Gem hops is used to provide a balancing bitterness without introducing any other hop character. While decidedly in the robust porter category, Certified Organic Porter has none of the harsh character people often associate with dark ales. Instead, what one finds is a rich, smooth beer with suggestions of chocolate and just a hint of coffee. So smooth and malty, this porter will convert even the non-dark beer drinker.

Bottle. Poured a dark brown with a pretty small head. I found this one to be rather heavy on the roasted malts, but in a very inviting way. The beer itself was extremely smooth and easy on the palate, though it kept up that robust malty and roasted character. Great porter.

Bottle at home. Aroma is dark malt, caramel, coffee, touch of chocolate and dark fruits, slight vanilla, some liquorice in the finish. Flavour is moderate sweet and light bitter. Body is medium, hint of creamy coffee. Nice and mild Porter with some good coffee flavours.

Received a 12-oz bottle via trade as an extra. Pours a semi-clear cola brown colored brew with an average sized off-white head that quickly disiiaptes and leaves behind a thin ring and film top. Aroma of chocolate, a hint of coffee and earthy hops. Taste is medium bodied, flavors of roasted chocolate malt, some caramel and earthy hops. Finish is a touch lighter than most other porters I’ve tried, some chocolate and tasted caramel aftertaste.

DraftDodger (1083) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - SEP 3, 2016
Copenhagen 3/9 2016. 33 cl bottle from Gunnar Madsen Vinhandel. Apparently a porter from the first certified organic brewery in the US. Bridge crossing the Eel River on the label. Pours clear reddish brown with off-white head. Settles as thin layer of foam. Aroma of sweet toffee intermingling with bitter coffee, dark chocolate and dark roasted malts. Medium carbonation and slightly thick palate. Flavor is medium sweet followed by more pronounced bitterness. Aftertaste is coffee bitterness. A bit watery. A nice light porter - and you can drink it with a clear and organic conscience.

Bottle shared with Ran & Dale at their house in Escondido, CA, 21.4.16. Dark brown with a frothy beige head. Malty aroma with the slightest caramel notes, very malty bitterness with some simple chocolate. Too light of a body, quite carbonated, a little roasty aftertaste.

Bottle picked up locally at home. Pours a dark cola brown color with a small off white head. The aroma and flavor have roasted malt, dark chocolate, some coffee, earthy notes, perhaps a hint of tobacco, lighter bodied, seems fresh but just a tad thin, ok.

12oz bottle (Courtesy of Headbanger) poured into an English Pint at 41°. Color is a dark brown with a bit of maroon. Carbonation is good with a small tight tan head. Aroma is toffee and roasted malt. Body is medium with a crisp light mouth feel. Flavor is deep roasted malt that gives a note of toffee sweetness, then coffee and a touch of dark fruit. After taste is more roasted malt and a dry feel. Overall it’s a great Porter, complex with a nice balance of sweet and roasted flavors.
