nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 29, 2008 The aroma is toasty with malt, molasses, coffee, and fruit. The appearance is dark brown with a nice head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is average but OK for the style. Overall it’s decent. jrmac (210), USA Jul 21, 2008 Pretty damn awesome. Smooth malty, espresso, and very balanced. Really one of the best beers I have had in a while. Really good. Hinez57 (129), Clinton, Mississippi, USA Jul 20, 2008 Nose of dark dried fruits, alcohol, chocolate, and musty leathery notes. Black appearance, with little tan head, quickly disappears. Overall intresting mix of chocolate, mild fruit, bitter floral notes, and earthiness flavors. Alcohol is quite prominent, could use a couple years of aging. Nice mouth feel, what you’re looking for. This is no doubt a good bier, but it’s a bit harsh around the edges. Alcohol is too prominent, and it would seem to benefit from a slightly different hop profile, something that fits more into the overall earthiness of this bier. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 18, 2008 nice impy, dark black with lotsa beige head, kinda rocky, nose is coffee, alcohol and chocolate. flavor follows a similar path, great alcohol burn on the finish, nice thick mouthfeel. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 17, 2008 Black with big bubbly white head. alty aroma. A bit prickly carbonation. Nitro, and very drinkable is the interesting highlight. Baker’s chocolate, chocolate malt. BeerBelcher (930), Columbus, Ohio, USA Jul 15, 2008 I have tried quite a few organic beers before this one, and had yet to be impressed. This was the first organic I’d seen that was "big," and had high hopes for it. And while it was good compared to the other organic beers I have tried, it didn’t compare favorably with other non-organic imperial stouts I’ve had. Nonetheless, it is not an unlikeable beer, and there is something redeeming in the bottle.
Color is dark, and head is minimal. Aroma is a bit subtle for an imperial stout, but offers some roastiness. Flavor really emerged when the beer warmed up a bit, and was a good amount sweeter at higher temperature. Flavor was very mild for the style and predominantly a nice roastiness. Mouthfeel was a bit watery/thin.
A pretty good brew, at a pretty good price, but by no means best in what is a very competitive style.
I bought this bottle at 3 Cellars in Franklin, WI. travita (1861), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 1, 2008 Prunes right away in the smell. Look is midnight black with a decent tan head. Also roastiness and coffee are in the smell. Taste is dark fruits, roasty, coffee, pudding. Nice creamy feel. jbuzz (658), South Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jun 30, 2008 Organic Beer Tasting at Three Cellars Milwaukee.
Very Smooth and mild. Chocolate character without being to sweet
