COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A rich roasty brew with a deep "espresso" character. Originally brewed for the Imperial Court in Russia, this stout is a warm festive drink made with the cold Russian Winters in mind. This complex stout is brewed with a combination of nine domestic and imported malts. Only the finest Pacific Northwest hops are used to provide the perfect balance in our award winning beer.

Pours a thin looking black color with almost no head at all. Beer appears to be close to still. No lacing. Coffee, malted-milk ball, ovaltine sort of aroma. Roasted malts and a slightly too old carton of chocolate milk flavor. Very thin mouthfeel for the style. Boring.

22oz bottle via trade with kenb - Poured black with a nice tan head good chocolate, coffee, and some roasted malts in the nose but also enough piney hops to let you know they were there. Flavor is quite roasty in the fore, that gives way to some chocolate in the middle, a hint of coffee, and some dark fruits before the somewhat bitter finish. Good carbonation and full body give this a great mouthfeel.. Very nice beer for number 2100

Bottle shared by OhioDad at C-Bus 6: Pours a nice black with a tan head. Aroma, roasty malts, chocolate, and some coffee. Flavor, matched the aroma pretty well, some slight bitterness on the end. Nice solid brew.

Shared by someone at C-bus 6, thanks to you! Light chocolate aroma comes from a black body with tan head. Medium palate. Tangy malt flavor up front with some roasted coffee and light hops in the finish.

Crosling (1863) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - MAR 2, 2007
Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours brown out of the bottle but appears dark in the glass. Fairly nice light brown head. Very miniscule nose. I’m comparing this next to Bristol XXX Warlock and the Warlock is powerfully aromatic. This has hardly any aroma at all. Flavor isn’t much better. A light hint of malt-o-meal, dried chocolate. Not very complex, not hoppy and not nearly roasty enough. Meh, very mediocre.

22oz bottle. Aroma has a definitive chocolate and smokey tone. Appearance was undesirable, as there was virtually no head. However, the flavor and palate were very unique. A much softer flavor than the sharpness of most imperials. A smoother imperial for those not a huge fan of imperials stouts. But I prefer the sharper tastes of The Abyss and Speedway.

Draught at alehouse. Black like Niger delta crude, no head, no lacing Aroma of molasses and malt. Notes of chocolate, coffee and smoke with much alcohol. Bit of a hop finish with chocolate malt. Sip this. Don’t gulp it, you’ll miss something.

Bottle provided by kenb. Pours opaque with a small creamy dark brown head that somewhat diminishes to rocky, fair to good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, chocolate, coffee, toasted), light hops (grass, perfume), average yeast (dough) with notes of smoke. Full bodied, alcoholic texture, average carbonation and a bitter finish. Average duration, light sweetness, moderate acidity and bitterness; very nice toasted chocolate malt flavor.
