3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 GIJOE (127) - Monterey, California, USA - MAR 7, 2013
Dark reddish pour with foamy tan head.
Smells like roasted dark malt with heavy notes of chocolate and cappuccino.
Malty sweetness up front with a trail off of hoppy, grassy bitterness.
Medium to thick mouthfeel with soft carbonation back. Long astringent finish.
Nice beer. I’d have another, but I don’t have another to drink. :(

Aroma of roasted malt, with hints of dark fruit, coffee, and chocolate. Pours an opaque black with a rapidly dark tan head and no lacing. The taste is overall sweet. The flavors are much like the nose. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Overall, ok. A. It too sweet and almost syrupy.

I think I really like this stuff from Eel River. I walked into the Yellow Store today looking for a barley wine to alleviate my back pain and found this. It’s a superbly black beer with a nice, light brown head. Its aroma is of sweet, roasted malts with a potent fruitiness reminiscent if cherry cough syrup.
It’s smooth in the mouth, with an excellently balanced palate of chocolaty roasted malts that blend well with its nearly cherry-like sweetness, gentle alcohol to lighten the body and richness, and a smoothness much like what you’d get from oats. Its smoothness persists into the finish, which tastes a little dry and fruity with absolutely no roasted malt bitterness to ruin the experience.
Looking for a smooth, soft, delectable and almost fruity imperial stout? I’ve found it!

22oz bottle from Chucks, old. I mean I’ve had this for at least a year, its yielded some dark fruits raisins mostly and a touch of alcohol. no real discernible coffee quality, some deep roast.. looks like a traditional stout..
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Cooperii (61) - California, USA - OCT 7, 2012
Poured black, light brown head with medium bubbles. Nose of sweet toasted maltyness, dark fruit with undertones of coffee and hops. Flavors of sweet roasted malts and subtle bitter hops up front. Sweet dark fruit(fig) and subtle coffee notes in the middle. The finish happens to be my favorite for this beer...everything seems to come together, coffee and sweet dark fruits linger with a subtle bitterness. This beer has gotten better as it has warmed up from the fridge, I have come to enjoy this beer on the warmer side...!
