Beerme (20), Seattle, Washington, USA May 8, 2009 Pours a dark ruby color witha solid tan head. Aroma of sweet malts. Sweet malty taste with notes of honey, alcohol is well hidden. Nice mellow flavor for such a big beer. Lothore (276), California, USA May 2, 2009 A- Pours a nice deep, murky brownish hue with a 1.5 finger, beige head which sticks around for quite a while.
S- Smells just like an old ale should ... deep caramel and candied fruit notes, very sweet with hints of alcohol.
T-Taste is a little bit of a let down from the smell. Roasted malt with lingering caramel, dark fruitiness and a hop kick finishing out the taste. A little too roasty for my taste and the caramel and dark fruit could have been more well pronounced.
M- At first I thought it was a tad thin but there was definitely a thick resiny quality to it that coats the mouth and sticks around for a while.
D- All in all an excellent old ale. The smell wrote a check that the taste couldn’t cash but it still ended up being a bit better than average.
Beardface (977), Eugene, Oregon, USA Apr 10, 2009 Bottle shared out with friends Lemur and TJ while enjoying some fine cigars. Deep amber pour with a barely there white head that fades quickly. Solid aroma, full of molasses, caramel, toffee. Nice booze burn in the flavor with caramel and a bit of grassy hop flavoring. Solid brew, would like to try again. Oscbert (531), Sacramento, California, USA Apr 9, 2009 Updated: Apr 10, 2009~Pours a musky amber with thin creamy off white head.
~Strong malty scent with caramel and citrusy/spicy hops.
~Hoppy taste balanced very well with smooth malts.
~Creamy mouth feel. Pleasant finish.
~Great brew! Hides alcohol extremely well.
Gypsy19 (603), California, USA Apr 7, 2009 On tap at Extreme Pizza, Sacramento. Was told that this was 11%, but that wasn’t evident in the aroma, just the flavor. Aroma was a dull mix of scotch or Irish whiskey and sweet aromas like caramel and toffee. Flavor was also quite scotchy/boozy, with a sprinkling of honey and cinnamon. Viscosity was kind of thin. Very drinkable, even slammable, despite the high booze. Overall, very satisfying. Final: Good plus. GandGKevin (183), Virginia Beach, Virginia, USA Apr 2, 2009 Pretty decent old ale. Light malty aromas. Flavor lingers for a long time. One of the better Organic beers. HonkeyBra (1274), Lemont, Illinois, USA Mar 24, 2009 Picked this up and thought it was a triple. I’m relieved it’s an Old ale. Reddish pour with thin white head. Rich, malty aroma. Some caramel, a bit of cherries and grass. Flavor is moderately hoppy and bitter, some caramel, some cereal. Finish is dry hoppy bitterness and cereal malt. Very tasty, actually. Easily one of the best Organic beers i’ve ever had. jmm635 (250), Havertown, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 19, 2009 Poured a deep amber color with an small off-white head. Strong, rich, malty aroma with lots of molasses. Hops come out a lot more in the flavor, which leaves a little bitterness. Medium bodied, nicely hidden alcohol, and a long malty finish.
