Palidor19 (1750), Brandon, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 great smooth aroma of toffee and caramel, slightly fizzy but plenty of body, not too sweet but excellent all around biggmike (480), Hattiesburg, Mississippi, USA Nov 20, 2008 Poured a dark brown/reddish color with fluffy head that lasted a little while. Aroma was malty and had hints of dark fruit. Taste is similar to the smell with some nice hops bitterness to balance it off. Mouthfeel was very pleasant. Drinkability for a beer of this abv was not too bad. Good stuff that I would have again.
sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 20, 2008 Pours copper/ambre, beige head.
Aroma, malty / caramel, dark fruits.
Taste, nice caramel malts. Fruity, almost syrupy (maple) light hops, good carbonation.
More goodness by Eel River.
durhambeer (1187), Durham, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bottle. Deep amber-reddish pour with off-white head. Nicely sweet malt character... toffee, a bit of butterscotch, caramel. Earthy and slightly dusty tasting. Some dark fruits, and a surprising amount of hops--without going overboard. Solid beer. markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 Pours a deep red-amber color with aroma and flavor of malt, maple, molasses, and it finishes with a nice sweetness. Excellent Old Ale. nick76 (2636), Tampa, Florida, USA Nov 18, 2008 The aroma is perfectly malty with caramel, toffee, and a touch of alcohol all balanced with piny hops. The appearance is red brown with a nice foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma but not as sweet as expected. The palate is smooth. Overall very nice. mjg74 (1995), La Mesa, California, USA Oct 31, 2008 Bomber from Whole Foods. Pours a nice ruby looking color. Nose is slightly sweet with a good amount of dark fruits and spice. Deep dark fruit flavors. Some yeastiness and spice. Alcohol is very well hidden . Sometimes this reminds me of a big BSA or quad and other times like a huge doppelbock. Very full of flavor. Lots of stuff going on and still well balanced. Cornfield (4892), Oak Forest, Illinois, USA Oct 31, 2008 From the bomber this pours a hazy amberish brown body topped by a towering yellowish beige head that leaves lotsish of lace. The aroma is sweet dark caramel, burnt light brown sugar, juicy dark fruits, dried fruit, molasses, and alcohol. Very creamy mouthfeel. The flavor faithfully reflects the nose, but starting at the midpoint there’s a charred hard nut bitterness that aids in balancing the malty sweetness. The finish is dry and mildly bitter. Not too shabby.
