Traditionally, Old Ales are an English style of dark, rich and sweet ale, typically with flavors of soft currant fruit and blackstrap molasses. While Old Ales typically have IBUs (bitterness) of 30-65, Eel River Brewing put their own spin on the style by adding extra hops to ramp up the IBUs to 80!

bomber. Good looking dark ale w/ sweet nose of malts & yeast. Taste is similar, w/ more yeast than I expected. Def biscuit/bready flavor w/ an odd flop at the end, just falls a little short.

Sampled from 22-oz bomber. Pours a clear dark cola brown colored brew with an average sized off-white head that slowly dissipates and leaves behind some excellent lacing. Aroma of black strap molasses, caramel malt, a hint of figs, brown sugar, chocolate and a hint of floral hops. Taste is full bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, chocolate, figs, a hint of brown sugar and some floral hops. Finish has a little alcohol burn with brown sugar, chocolate and some lingering hop bitterness.
