2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle picked up from Waitrose, Witney 10th July 2006. Had this last night whilst sat in the garden, not really impressed with yet another disappointing Pale Lager, thin, bland, little to taste the sort of comments that sum up most lagers. If I was sat in a beach bar in Bodrum, maybe this would have inadvertantly notched up an additional couple of points, through lack of alternatives, authenticity etc; but sat in my garden in Merton I could have chosen any one of a number of beers that would have bettered this.

A surprisingly great beer from a Mediterrenean country. I had stopped drinking pilsener for years (all that Heineken, Carlsberg crap) and was on Belgian. But now, I am back on pilseners, thanks to Efes...

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
(500 ml "FiÁi Bira" bottle: Shared by SDbruboy, thanks Cliff!) Hand-imported from Turkey, this cool-looking bottle empties a clear, straw-colored liquid into our glasses. A multitude of bubbles stream slowly to the surface, and when held up to the bright sunshine on this lovely San Diego afternoon (with the Pacific Ocean as the backdrop), itís quite an impressive sight. Nearly a full inch of white head caps this lovely beer initially, but also shows solid retention and leaves some patchy lacing on the glass as well. The nose is grainy, but itís a good grainy; no corn, no skunk, no cardboard. The flavor is sweet and grainy with a hint of corn, but again no cardboard. Well, while itís still cold, that is. As the beer warms up, Iím starting to pick up more and more of that dreadful cardboard in the flavor and the nose, but it never becomes all that noticeable or offensive. Light-medium body, but fairly clean and certainly refreshing with this unseasonably warm day by Cliffís pool. Not a great beer by any stretch of the imagination, but I was expecting much, much worse. In fact, this beer was consumed in its entirety rather than being used to water the plants.

1.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 5/20
Golden yellow color, little fizzy and limpid. Modest adherent head, medium duration. Watery and gaunt scent, light straw and cereals notes. Unusual balsamic nose with rumors of hop even if much modest. Lightly pungent, simple, pale and little interesting taste. Light bitter and alcohol, noticeable on the end.

Tap at the Pinnocchio in Moscow. Poured an effervescent gold with a cramy/frothy white head. Aroma of buttercream and light grass. Flavor is sweet cream, butter, toffee, some light hops. Tons of diacetyl in this. Blech.

1.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20
Pale yellow gold, stinky wet-hair aroma. Thin pale lager palate with some extra corny sweetness that isnít very pleasant. Average at best, and that may be being generous.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle (from Tesco, BBE Apr 07). Very pale. Sweet cereal and slight metallic. Quite boring with minimal flavour. Other than the colour and sweetness it wouldnt take too much of a leap of the imagination to think yourself drinking fizzy water, cool and refreshing yes, interesting no.
