33 cl bottle. For so many, this will be our only beer from a Moslem country; although Turkey has in fact a very secular government. Passed up the chance to try it in Russia two years ago, and now it’s here in the States. Bit of a skunk when I first open it. Pours a pretty decent gold lager color, fizzy with a disappearing head. I actally taste some bitterness first off, not a lot, but enough to be surprising. I do get some adjunct to it, but it has lots of prickly effervescence to keep it from being too sweet. Bits of spice here and there give this more complexity than most world-wide exports. It stands out somewhat in a style dominated by blandness. Of course if it’s being exported from just one source, you need to play the odds to snare an unspoilt pack.

50 cl bought from Lidl. Pours clear golden color with medium white head. Aroma and taste are similar: some cereals, some hops, some sweetness, but nothing special, just an industrial pilsener beer. Light body and texture, watery, with medium bitter finish. A mediocre beer.

Pours a clear pale yellow from the can with bubbly white head that dissipates quickly to leave light lace. Aroma and taste of mild grain, but mostly adjunct, probably rice, mild sweetness. Another light lager made for the masses. Turkish tick though.

50 cl. can. Very clear light yellow with a minimal, quickly disappearing white head. Aroma is malt, grains and a bit of rice. Taste is quite sweet, with very light bitterness and very light sourness. Light body, thin texture, soft carbonation, and watery mouthfeel. Would be a refreshing beer on a summer day if served cold, but when there are other options it would not be my choice.

Aroma: fresh citrus smells, with slight herb aroma. Appearance: clear golden colour with lots of visible effervescence and little head. Taste: slightly hoppy with bitter grainy notes.

I drank this beer at several oportunities and during my trip in Istanbul. In my opinion, it is a basical beer, nothing extraordinary, beer when you are thirsty. The taste is a bit metalic, some cereals, maybe few corn, watery, few hop, un pleasant sensation in the mouth.

Aus der Flasche beim Döner getrunken. Es ist halt ein Mittemeerbier. Es gibt aber Schlechteres.

33cl bottle at home. Appearance: light straw with medium white head and carbonation visible. Aroma: only sweet malts. Taste: fairly sweet with medium bitterness. Only sweet malts in the taste. Palate: light bodied, sticky texture and medium carbonation. Good thirst quencher.

Poured into a dof tumbler, pale, sparkling, with a small amount of foam. Soft carbonation, flavorful, light bodied. A bit of citrus and herbs. Overall, very pleasant and refreshing.
