FatPhil (1853), Espoo, Finland May 21, 2008 500ml bottle (S Market)
Deep reddy brown, small off-white head. Rich grainy aroma. Plenty of hops too - real ones at that - dry, dusty, peppery, maybe even ginger at a pinch. No diacetyl in this bottle - grab another bottle, dudes! Soft palate, feels like it will be sweet. It’s not sugary sweet, but it’s definitely on the sweeter side, not unpleasantly so. However, there’s a very nice graininess to the taste, with plenty of roasted malts, and lots of tangy bitter hops. After spicy food, this tasted a bit more sweet and fruity, still very nice. Nice dry nutty hoppy finish. Well done Eggenberg!
Miksu (1149), Jyväskylä, Finland Jul 2, 2008 0.5 l bottle. Dark reddish brown color with thick creamy head, foams over. Sweet, caramelly and bready aroma with malty melanoidins. Sweet, bready, malty, sugary and honeyish flavor with medium bitterness. Bitter chocolate in the finish. Sweet sugary flavor deteriorates drinkability. Tranquillity (1014), Espoo, Finland Jun 20, 2008 Bottled. Aroma of mushroom, not much else. Quite pleasant. Dark mahogany body with a thick, small-bubbled beige head. Taste Sweet & Sour! Roasted and sweet, in a good way. TBone (4566), Pori, Finland Jun 5, 2008 Bottled (BB 11/2008)
Dark red ruby color, decent sized creamy beige head. Toasted syrupy aroma with notes of diacetyl and woody hops. Medium-bodied. Toasted, buttery flavor. A bit acidic and diacetylic. Also some odd sweetness, propably from saccarine. Finish has hoppy bitterness. In the aftertaste there is some bitterness. Quite basic and typical Czech dunkel. With 11 degree gravity just a bit too thin at the end. janir (118), Oulu, Finland May 16, 2008 Very dark brown color with brownish off-white, creamy head. Aroma is sweet, syrupy, a bit toffy with roasted malts and diacetyl. Flavor is some kind of strange (glueye?) roasty malty, buttery and syrupy sweet. Aftertaste is slightly acrid. A bit watery palate is medium-bodied.
