3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap after a long day’s rafting to Cesky Krumlov. Pours dark, clear Brown with a small cream head. Mild coffee, chocolate and charred wood. A bit overly sweet for my liking with a bit of a tang to the finish.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Eggenberg Cerne on tap at the brewery’s Restaurant Eggenberg in Cesky Krumlov in 2011 (from notes).
Deep mahogany, very dark, with a large puffy tan head. Very inviting and rich aroma of dark malt;a hint of spices (from the hops?)
Full, rich dark malt flavor with a great balance of malts and excellent intensity. Some spicy hops on the finish.
Excellent carbonation and medium-full feel
O - superb example of style. Certainly one of the best Czech cernes I’ve had.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Can. Pours a dark brown, almost black. Auburn tinge. Small, latte-colored head. Aroma is a lot of dark, syrupy bread. Quite a bit of caraway in there. Light caramel and butteriness detectable as well. Taste is mostly dark bread. Tones of dark syrup as well. Herbal finish. Palate is a bit watery with a lot of carbonation. An alright dunkel, not really a schwarzbier in my book as far as flavors go. Would go well with food: Heavy stews and darker, inexpensive pieces of meat.
