COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A typical Austrian Märzenbier, mildly hoppy, highly fermented and full-bodied in taste. With 5.2% alcohol by volume and original gravity of 11.8ºPlato, it is a highly drinkable, well-rounded beer with a pronounced malt flavour. Award winner at national and international beer competitions, Gold Medal winner and holder of Monde Selection International High Quality Trophy. “Märzen” is derived from the German word for the month of March, März. Traditionally, beer was brewed in the autumn, and the barrels of beer would be covered with ice during the cold winter months. By the time the ice melted in March, the beer would be ready to drink.

Clear golden yellow with white foam head. Somehow the foam wouldn’t stay (high altitude, drinking this in airplane). Aroma is malty, taste is good märzen taste, somewhat sparkling. High carbonated seems, or again airplane mode? Short but bitter aftertaste. (Vienna 201211)

Can. Clear, golden body, with a big, frothy, white head, that dissipates quickly. Aroma is light, grainy, sweet and metallic. Taste is watery and really unpleasant, with a dominant metallic note, some flat sweetness, grains and herbs. Mouthfeel is light, with a moderate carbonation and it finishes light, with grains, herbs and metallic notes again. Can’t finish this, this is just poor.

500 ml can bought at Lafaco & Co’s booth at HKCEC in Wan Chai during Hong Kong Food Festival 2013.

Piss pale golden yellow colour; One quarter finger head with soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Minimal sticky lacing and fizzy carbonation; Quite pungent smell of lager malt, with grains, hints of sugar, Light bread, lemon and light grass; Very low sweet taste of light malt, with strong grains, bread, light dough, thin liquorices, light lemon and faint grass; Light body, watery palate; Mouth feel is Pale Lager sans sugar, thin and watery with very strong grain taste. Quite bready, no off-taste. Very monotone; Hoppiness is very light lemon and grass in nose and taste. Liquorices is faint, led to a slightly astringent semi-finish; Slightly dry after taste, very easy to mouth.

Comments: A Pale Lager pretends to be a Maerzen. Easily quaffable but otherwise straight, clean, thin and boring. No!

Can. Light golden, small to average and mostly diminishing head. Light to moderate, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish aroma, light metal and faint hoppyness. Body is light to medium, malty - lightly grainy and sweetish, faint hoppyness. Finish is short to average, malty - lightly grainy and lightly sweetish, light metal and faint hoppyness. Light notes of sharp metal in the finish - really could use more bitterness.
