A strong dark doppelbock with very good toasted malt and spices. Fairly high in alcohol content but not overwhelming with the alcohol aftertaste. Good both served at room temp and at colder temps. A good winter seasonal that can be stored and enjoyed year round.

330ml bottle. Clear amber colour with average firm frothy moderately lacing off-white head. Toasted and caramel malt aroma, minimal touch of hay. Taste has a balance of slightly sweet and tart notes, toasted caramel malt as well as a minimally citrussy hop note. Relatively easy drinkable for its abv.

330 ml bottle. BBE 09/2012. Thanks Timo A.
Pours a dark amber colour without a head. Aroma of sweet malts, ripe fruits and some weak herbal notes. Flavour of sweet toasted malts, herbs, strong grassy hops and some alcohol in the back. Low carbonation and a vinous, warming, malty finish. Some similarities with English strong ales. Has aged well.

kiwianer (2315) - Mönchengladbach, GERMANY - MAY 28, 2012
Röstmalzige Farbe, Schaumkrone ok. Mittelstärker röstmalziger Geschmack, süß-lakritzartig, die 7,6% Alkohol schmeckt man deutlich. Nachgeschmack ein kleines bisschen herb und lakritzartig. Fazit. Der süßliche Lakritzgeschmack und der starke Alkoholische Geschmack gefällt mir bei diesem Bier nicht so gut. Trinkbar aber dürfen die Mönche in Zukunft von mir aus gerne selber trinken. Bottled 330ml (BZ, BB 09/2012, ABV 7.6 %)
Dark ruby-brown color, msall off-white head. Aroma is a bit harsh, sweetish with rye, caramel and molasses. Medium-bodied. Sweetish caramelly, raisiny, ryeish malty, some harsh notes. Alcoholic. Eichbaum is not known for quality, so it is not a suprise that their -ator tastes quite industrial.

Aroma has much malt and some solvent. Flavour has bready malt and hints of solvent. Some sinol-like alcohol comes through in the finish. Some characters from english strong ales. Not my doppelbock, too much alcohol.
