I lived in Viernheim for 5 years. One of the things I miss the most is Eichbaum. It is a cultural thing and can only be appreciated by living in the culture.

A strong dark doppelbock with very good toasted malt and spices. Fairly high in alcohol content but not overwhelming with the alcohol aftertaste. Good both served at room temp and at colder temps. A good winter seasonal that can be stored and enjoyed year round.

Wenig fruchtig, absolut vollmundig. Langer feiner Malznachgeschmack mit deutlichen Schokoladennoten. Sehr gut! 9/11/12/12/13/13

Courtesy of Papsoe. Thank you, Henrik. The aroma is extremely malty and can be detected at arms length, as I pour. There is an odd oxidized aged barley wine aroma to it along with caramel, dark bread and muted dark fruit notes. The body is river water brown with a quickly diminishing tan head. Sweet pumpernickel and rye bread fore is very toasty and has strong caramel accents. The aroma had me turned off and ready for a let down, but this tastes very good. There is a long lasting round candy caramel sweetness that goes allt he way into the aftertaste. It just lingers and lingers with this fat candy flavor. How in the freaking hell did this earn a 42 overall score!!!? This is a damn good doppelbock!

Süßer und röstmalziger Geruch. Antrunk bedeckt süßlich, malzgetreidig. Mitte kraftvoll röstig mit schokoladig-nougatartigen Noten. Bitterschokoladiger Abgang. Alkoholisch prickelnd und wärmend ausklingend. Sauberer Doppelbock.Test vom 16.3.2010, Gebinde: Glasflasche

Bottle. A clear, copper colored beer with a nice beige head. Sweet and malty nose with caramel, roast and some hops. The same goes for the flavor, but there’s some alcohol present as well. Full body and a sweet and malty finish with some alcohol. Nice doppelbock. (070413)
