3.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 BlackHaddock (1709) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 8, 2012
Found this in my local Morrisons store, I think the brewery has dropped the ’Ureich’ from the name for the UK market: best before May 2007, drank March 2007.
4.8%, they just call it Eichbaum Premium Pils, sold in 0.5 litre brown bottles at 99 pence each.
I had just finished chopping and sawing wood for the ’sit around the Chimnia and be happy we’ve got central heating inside, evening’ my wife has planned. I wanted something to quell my thirst and remembered i had a couple of bottles of this awaiting to be opened.
Poured into a Veltins glass (two and a half times), it looked good, a full golden straw blonde in colour, with a smooth white head, the head soon disappeared to leave a thin collar round the glass.
Smells of dry straw, but not enough to trouble hay fever sufferers, a slight yeast and hop aroma also, but only if I am being kind.
Very refreashing, dry, yet a bit sweet, a good example of a German Pilsner.
Most lagers/pilsners have very little aftertaste to me, this is as good as I’ve had, but it might be down to the thirst I had when drinking this beer.
I liked this beer, pilsner is not my prefered beer when at home, or when out in the UK, but this was most enjoyable and just what I needed after some manual work. I would have no problems putting this in my supermarket trolley again.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Koelschtrinker (7060) - Köln (Cologne), North Rhine-Westphalia, GERMANY - MAR 17, 2012
Gut! 8/11/11/12/11/11

2010-09-06, draught in Worms, 6-3-5-3-11=28 Blond color; nice compact head. It has a mild but nice malt aroma, crispy, and some hops, also lightly fruity. The body is lean; there is a light malt and cereals flavor, with some hop trace. Reasonable drink.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 crossovert (2785) - Wisconsin, USA - FEB 21, 2011
11.2 ounce green bottle.
As I pop it open there is no skunk phew, it is a fresh, well-kept bottle. I only have a single bottle, I am not sure if there is paper over the 12 packs.
The appearance is classic German pils, it is a pale but also well colored gold with a big foamy white head that leaves some lacing.
The smell is a balance of malt and hops. The hops have a slight citrus hint to them which is odd, and also the typical herbal noble hop character. The hops aren’t pungent but they seem more noticeable in this beer than most of this style.
The taste is mellow, the malt is very mellow and the hops are slightly bitter and herbal. It is a satisfying German Pils.
The mouthfeel could be better. The drinkability is high. There are other German Pilseners that I like better but this is worth a try, if only I had the proper glassware.
