Another beer from Eichhofener. It’s the Eichhofener Festbier. On their website, it’s described as a beer "mit angenehm, abgerundeter Bittere. Für Bierkenner ein echtes Märzen. Für den besonderen Anlass." [with a pleasant/enjoyable, well-rounded bitterness. For beer connoisseurs, a true Märzen. For a special occasion.] The color is deep amber with an orange glow under a pearl white foam. 5.5% ABV. The aroma is like almost every beer from this region: Münchner malt-malty with hints of hops in the background with maybe some caramel, too. The initial taste is full-bore sweet maltiness, but in a good way. No bitterness up front, sweet malts with caramel flavors. As it flows over the tongue, the sweet caramel maltiness gives way slowly to a slight sourness and just a little bitterness in the back. It’s mouthfeel is thicker than Pils but not as thick as an Oatmeal Stout, another beer in that Goldilocks zone where you feel the distinct weight of the beer going over and around the tongue as a pleasurable sensation. Overall, this is like drinking a caramel/malt candy, though having just enough bitterness and that hint of tartness to not let it become sickly or cloyingly sweet. If this is what a Märzen should taste like, I’m all for it. Nonetheless, now that I’m finishing off the bottle, I feel myself wishing it had just a tad more bitterness from a Czech Saaz or German Tettnanger, for the malty sweetness is starting to get too much for me. In fact, I couldn’t finish the bottle due to it’s over-maltiness. Still, it’s great how they managed to give you the taste in a finished beer of a sweet wort before it’s fermented.

Golden color. Aromas of malt, wheat & some grassy notes- also some honey Light/ medium body & compexity. Mild sweetness

0.5 l bottle as present... Clear dark Orange, almost red color, bad head... Strong earthy aroma... Too intensive taste... Not my favorite...

On tap at the brewpub in Eichhofen, Germany. Pours a copper clear color with a huge off white head. Aroma is sweet candy malt and Taste is a very smooth and creamy fruit. Palate is a smooth as a babys butt. Very well done Märzen

Bottle. Thanks Hart. Pours copper with a soda-like white head that dissipates almost immediately. Aroma is light apricot in the beginning, but it’s gone in a second. Mostly mild grain. Taste is grainy with light apricot, turns even a little pea-like on the finish. Light grass there as well.

Bottle MHD 10.12. Nose with light citrus and grass, some caramel. Dull, clear orange body with a rocky cream head. Taste is sweet with a really juicy malt presence and only a hint of hops at the back end, lightish body is lightly crisp at first but smooth smooth. The crackery caramel here has the potential to be a real star. Juicy juicy juicy.

Good beer but if you drink it often then it tastes a bit boring after a while but i like it.

Dieses sogenannte Festbier kann man höchstens auf einer Beerdigung trinken, beim trinken ist mir zum heulen zumute. Schmeckt muffig und irgendwie so, als wäre der Geschmack zurück gehalten worden. Irgendwie ein komisches Bier. Das kaufen lohnt sich, wie bei den meisten anderen Bieren dieser Brauerei auch, nicht. Test vom 2.4.2005, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 11,5,7,6,12,6 - 6,80
