Keg, special for Irish Craft Beer and cider Festival 2013
Our festival special is an American Amber Ale that we’ve called Amber-Ella. We’ve had our pick of the Aussie hop harvest so it’s all about Galaxy and Ella in this rather special limited edition brew.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass. Lovely amber color, medium effervescent off white head that dissipated quickly, almost no lacing but a little webbing. Floral hop bouquet that’s slightly different than expected due to the unusual hops used. Caramel, brown bread, some piney hop resin too. Flavor doesn’t quite live up to the aroma here, slightly watered down mouthfeel, the malt profile is slightly sweeter than desired which takes away from the tropical fruit and floral hop bitterness. Overall an interesting beer that can be slightly tweaked to make something really special.

A nice one shared with McTapps. Classy nose of fine hops combined with a big grapefruit. Tastes like a grapefruit with that typical thin-bitter end. Classy and refreshing one. Would have loved to try that one in summer.

This wonderful beer pours out of the bottle (many thanks to Culchiem!) in a cloudy amber-reddish colour with low head and medium body. Nice aroma of hops and caramel. But the taste is just great: Pure, ripe grapefruit with its light sourness and bitter finish, citrus, hops and hay. Bitter-dry finish - pure grapefruit brewed into a beer. I enjoyed it a lot and feel the urge to go to the supermarket first thing tomorrow in the morning and to buy a pink grapefruit.

Pours dark red. This is what happens when you throw a load of hops at an Irish red. Aroma is citrus peach and mango. Flavour is nut toffee caramel sweet then big hop bitterness. Medium body. Nice beer and shows a willingness to experiment with a traditional format. I would drink a lot of this given the opportunity.

Bottle at Gulpd. Pours a deep hazy red amber with bubbles and a bubbly off white head. Light toffee, berries, ever so slightly soapy on the nose. Fairly mild aroma. Full of flavour, light sweetness and bigger clean bitterness. Bitter berries are prominent throughout. Clean dry bitter finish, slighly prickly. Very very tasty beer. Better than 5am Saint, in my opinion!

Bottle at home courtesy of the beer nut, cheers john
dark hazy ruby with fluffy amber head which collapses to a lacing. Rich peaches and mango on the nose. Medium carbonation and body, fruity gooseberry, fairly bitter but balanced by digestive biscuit malt and red berry flavours from hops. Well made amber giving 5am saint a run for its money.

Draught. Murky amber with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet candy hop. Flavour is blood orange, bitter hop, syrupy sugar, on a fruity bitter finish with alco notes.

On tap at Farringtons. Appearance: murky brown, small off white head. Aroma: Deliciously tangy hoppy nose, pineapple and mango, marijuana and pine, smells amazing. Flavour: Bitter, lovely pine and citrus flavour with a good malty backbone, fantastically hoppy, long pine and malt bitter finish. Lovely.

UPDATED: MAR 8, 2014 Draught @ ICBCF. Appearance is amber, slightly cloudy, eggshell head which doesnt last. Really nice nose - toast, fruit, caramel and toffee. Flavour is sweet up front followed quickly by massive grapefuit bitterness. Light body, low carbonation. Finish is more bitterness - the hops never stop. Another exciting beer from 8 Degrees!

Keg at ICBCF. Deep reddish copper. Lots of deep citrus and dank tropical stuff in the aroma - plenty of fairly nutty, woody caramel malt too. Big grapefruit hit first up in the taste, followed by more perfumey tropical notes. Thick caramel and nutty malt. Pine resin to finish, lingering grapefruit. Bit of a powerhouse this one - very good.
