Our festival special is an American Amber Ale that we’ve called Amber-Ella. We’ve had our pick of the Aussie hop harvest so it’s all about Galaxy and Ella in this rather special limited edition brew.

Creedence (287) - Montreal, Quebec, - NOV 15, 2013
Bottle at Gulpd. Pours a deep hazy red amber with bubbles and a bubbly off white head. Light toffee, berries, ever so slightly soapy on the nose. Fairly mild aroma. Full of flavour, light sweetness and bigger clean bitterness. Bitter berries are prominent throughout. Clean dry bitter finish, slighly prickly. Very very tasty beer. Better than 5am Saint, in my opinion!

Bottle from O’Donovans. Rusty amber pour with a decent off-white head. Surprised by the hop forward aroma for a red ale from Ireland. Drinks more like an IPA. Great hop profile, well-balanced malts. Becoming my favourite brewery in Ireland.

Bottle at home. Slight hazy dark amber with off white head. Lots of resin, toast, toffee, burnt sugar, grapefruit and marmalade. Very oily bitter with light roasted bitter finish and underneath just a light sweetness. Medium bodied with slick oily feel.

Might be my first experience with Ella, but it is a good one. Very bitter beer with a beautiful aroma. Roemer Groningen, bottle

Vaiz (4334) - Den Haag, NETHERLANDS - SEP 17, 2015
Bottle at home. Hazy orange pour, thin white head. Aroma of crispy hops, floral, pine, citrus, some resin and a hint of toffee. Flavor is very bitter, fruity hops, a bit spicy and with some caramel malts. More like an IPA, and a very decent one too.

Benzai (14282) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - SEP 16, 2015
Bottle @ home. Hazy amber color, full sized a bit foamy off-white head that lasts for a long time. Aroma is malts, a hint of caramel, lightly hops, a hint of leaves, the slightest hint of raisins. Taste malts, very bitter, lightly hops. Medium body and firm carbonation. Solid beer, but you’ll only like it if you’re into very bitter beers.
