bottled, special
This beer is designed to challenge your preconceptions: it looks like a rich dark porter but tastes like a punchy IPA. This Black IPA uses Zeus hops from the Yakima valley and Ella hops from Australia. Think pine resins, citrus and tropical fruit aroma with a spicy bite. Close your eyes, take a sip and let your taste buds take over.

Pours out of the bottle ( many, many thanks to beersiveknown for this nice one!) in a deep black colour with low head and medium body. Aroma of roasted hops and pine. Taste of fresh hops, dark grains, spruce, pine, citrus, spices and herbs. Easy and nice to drink with highly quaffable moments. Nice one.

Enjoyable black IPA with some earthy moments. Coffee, roasted malt and bit of acid in the back. Definitely full bodied with a nice and balanced aftertaste. To recommend.

BB 30 08 12, 330ml Dark black in the glass, intense floral in the nose. The beer starts intense, floral, a bit viscous. Nice hints of floralness and fresh hops over a body that is more a stout than anything else. Rich and creamy, thick till the end. Floral and slightly roasted ending, smooth bittered.
I wonít call it a Black IPA - it is more a nice dry-hopped Imperial Stout. --> 11/10/10/10

Rich citrus and guava with slight chocolate undercurrent. Cola with a lacing of beige head. Full bodied, tingling carbonation, tangerine, pithy bitterness, long bitter finish. Spot on BIPA.

Appearance: pitch black, thin brown head. Aroma: catty hops (hurrah) malty and fruity, lemon zest. Flavour: hoppy, spice, almost a curry flavour, bitter as hell with a chocolate and coffee flavour, lovely long spicy finish. Delicious.

Black, thin dark tan head, light lacing
Aroma - Herbal zest hop nose, slight rubber on the nose, cut vegetable stems, car tyre, not liking the hop aroma in this
Taste - Bitter dry zest, herbal hops, some dark bitter roast, plant material, dab of burnt rubber, odd, oh this isnít working for me
Palate - Soft carb, thinnish body, bitter hop, dry. Finish - dry bitter herbal hop finish, rather astringent
Overall - Oh Iím the only one here not liking this - the hop profile didnít agree with my palate at all

Absolutely phenomenal BIPA. Pours a stout black with a nice tan head that last for a little while and leaving good lacing on the pint glass. Aroma of coffee beans, vanilla, grapefruit, citrus, some burnt toast. The striking part of this beer is the wonderful balance between that Porter-like roasted character and the American style hop notes. Delicious, much much better than the rating would suggest.

330ml bottle from Redmonds. Brown, almost black pour, light tan head, lasting, nice lacing, looks the part. Nice contrast in the aroma between a light roasted malt and some tropical fruits. Theres a spice in there too. Flavour is very robust, heavy roast malt up front, lots of bitterness next and finally finishing with some chocolate/coffee notes. Quite dry and no sweetness. Light body, not much carbonation. Finish is long and dry grapefruit/soy bitter. No sign of the 7% ABV. Roast malt dominates toward the acrid.

33cl bottle. Pitch black with tan head. Aroma gives plenty of sweet, dank papaya and tangerine, pine needles, grapefruit and a decent bit of peppery spice. Thereís some burnt coffee hanging around too. The taste is pretty hefty: lots of tropical fruit, burnt coffee, some tobacco, thick pine, big grapefruit, dark roasted malt. Medium bodied with a good amount of carbonation lifting everything. Really rough bitter fruits in the finish, some heavy smokey roasted malt bitterness. Massive bite to it. Very decent stuff.
