11.2 oz. green bottle. No noticeable skunkage, fortunately. Aroma features tangerine, peach, yellow raisin, and sugary/buttery pastry. Adequately intriguing and pleasant smell. Pours a clear, effervescent bronze with a moderate amount of taupe head. Produces a small to moderate amount of thin lacing. Nice appearance. The taste has an excessively sweet start and a surprisingly dry finish; amazing contrast, but not in a good way; it’s too much. Fruity, sugary flavor. Croissant, plum, and cotton candy elements. A hint of salt/lemon/vinegar/metal, but I don’t think it’s skunkage. That’s an element I’ve noticed in several heller bocks. Not awful in flavor, but it’s cloyingly sweet enough to fall on the low side of mediocre. Lightly dry aftertaste. Moderate body. Lively and silky in the palate. Pleasant palate. Decent aroma, appearance, and palate but somewhat subpar flavor. The flavor would indicate a score in the mid-2s. Everything else lends itself to mid-3s. An ultimate score of 3 seems appropriate.

Fazit: Kann man trinken!

Golden color with a very small head. Aroma of caramel malt. Head collapsed quick. Good mouth with a ton of grain and a little caramel. Slight grain alcohol taste at times. Finish is wet and juicy. This beer could use some more hops, but it is very full flavor.

33 cl. bottle @ home. Amber with a white head. Malty, mild roasted malts. Very lively carbonation which is appropiate in a spring bock.

This beer may have been the victim of a green bottle. Very flat to no head on pour. Immediate skunk smell was over powering. Flavor was stale and very thin. I feel like I owe this beer another try in a fresher state.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Scrapersnbeer (459) - Boston, Massachusetts, USA - MAY 9, 2012
Bristles with the fruitcake aroma that seems to accompany helles-type bocks. Amber-orange color, mine wasn’t too carbonated. Taste of sweet malt and fuel filled background. Almost like the strong pilseners from further east. Slick and thick, like my ex doing the walk of shame. Maybe I’m just not into heller bocks.

Nice bottle package. Green 11.2 oz, heheh. Beauty of a pour, creamer darker pale lager looken thing. Yeasty bread aroma. Visible co2 rampant. First taste is rude old lager thing. Certainly does not hide its alky well, almost cloying; must be old. Yes, old medicine. Mouth coating brew feer sure. Glad to have had the chance to try this, not friendly to my girlie pale lager taste buds. wew nasty nellie. Yes like many old strong lagers in cans I’ve had. Get the heller bok outtah here.

From BA: This has been a favorite German beer of mine for a long time. The two 0.33 litre bottles this review is based on, were bought in Cochem (a wine town on the Mosel River) last July. I have been saving them for a rainy day, today it rained! The Best By Date was 10th November 2006, I had them on 29th August 2006.
Amber, no other colour, this beer is amber, the head does not hang around for long, so get in there fast!
No great smell, a smooth maltiness maybe, but nothing to get excited about.
The taste is better than almost any other German Bock, not over heavy, but you can feel the power and hop character (Hallertau according to my books), as you attack the beer. Obviously some of the really heavy, dark Bocks have incredible flavours, but we are not talking about those sort of Bocks, this is a delicate May time Bock, not a jet black monster Bock.
I had these two in a Belgian ’Forbidden Fruit’ Bowl, not ideal, but close enough to ensure the aroma (not that is has a powerful one) and taste were there to enjoy.
Very drinkable with a good firm aftertaste, I will always buy some if I see it on my travels, I recommend that you do the same.
