baseballguy (246), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Sep 25, 2003 It made a somewhat favorable first impression, but is one of those beers I would like to try again to see if the impression is sustained.
phishpond417 (1386), Green Bay, Wisconsin, USA Aug 20, 2008 This beer pours a clear, vibrant orange-amber colour with a full frothy white top. Aroma is nutty, moderate alcohol fumes and carmel. Taste is full on the palate, butterscotch, barleywine-esque characteristics and somewhat salty. nice beer overall. SSSteve (1489), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 9, 2008 clear copper/orange under a medium sized creamy off-white head. flavor is malty with notes of honey and butter. bready malts. sweet malty aroma. kpresley77 (61), Jackson, Georgia, USA Aug 9, 2008 Bottle courtesy of fonefan pours clear golden with thin white head. Aroma is sweet malt and bread. First taste is sweet then the carbonation comes in. Alcohol is there slightly but the malt flavor resonates throughout, but there is a hing of hops bitterness in the end. luv_casks (170), USA Aug 6, 2008 Clear golden pour with a persistent white head.
Aroma of bread, lots of softly sweet malts and a touch of melanoidin and light light floral note.
Flavor: Quick bite of carbonation, then soft malts - a touch of caramel and peppery spice note from the hop. The alcohol quickly peeks to warm the palate as well. The melanoidin shows up nicely as part of the lingering finish which is dry and slightly spicy
Palate: Medium light bodied the carbonic bite a little more apparent when the beer is not fully warm
Overall: A classic example of a helles bock - there is a certain unassuming enjoyability with this beer which makes it enjoyable from the packaging to the palate really well done. The only off thing is the caramel note in the taste - may have been a slightly oxidised sample
