3.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
It pours amber in color with a healthy light tan head. There is not much in the way of lacing. There are strong malt aromas that are of caramel, nuts, roasted, and biscuit with grassy notes on the side. It has a healthy taste of nuts, roasted, and caramel malts with touches of honey in the flavor as well. It does have a rather astringent bite on the palate.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
The archetypical bottom-fermented German dark Bock, from Einbeck itself, where the style is said to originate centuries ago. Yellowish white, creamy, bit irregular but dense, albeit not too stable head; colour a pure and warm copper, clear. Malty aroma, Pilsener malts but some caramel and nutty malts as well, biscuit, grassy hops, brandy, honey, orange peel and a smoky, bit tobacco-like accent. Sweetish caramelly and nutty malts in the mouth, smooth and delightful, something honeyish too, quickly shifting into a peppery, spicy hop bitterness paired with some warming, brandy-like alcohol, ending dry and bitter with an ever so slight astringency. Very interesting and important lager, a delight having something like this on a chilly autumn day.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
0.33 bottle. Clear, very bright brown color and a small, cream-colored head. Very sweet aroma of caramel, malts, cookie dough, and some fruits. Taste is also sweet though not as much as the aroma; again some cookie dough, caramel, hints of roast, and some alcohol. Medium body, Finish is also sweet and similar to the taste but much heavier on the alcohol side. Overall the beer is surprisingly good though it still has noticeable drawbacks like it’s gratuitous alcohol content which, even though usually desired, here is uncontrolled and poorly handled.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
Appearance- clear. Amber, copper. Good amount of bubbles. Small bone white head that lasted a bit. Not much lacing.
Smell- clean, malty. Not a whole lot going on here.
Taste- malt and cola. Sweet. Bready aftertaste. Subtle bitterness.
Mouthfeel- light body. Light carbonation. Creamy.
Overall- just OK (for me). Might be that I’m just not a bock guy. Won’t be having again.

3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Finally get to try the dunkel bock category after over two years on RB and five years as a beer geek! Excited! Pour: amazing head on this one. More than a finger length, and the retention and lacing are amazing to behold. Copper color with ruby hints underneath. 5 on appearance. Aroma, unfortunately, is heavily skunked by the green bottling. Beyond the skunk, I smell the dark malts, but it’s just too overpowered by the skunk overall. Taste: malt-forward, slight booze, yet feeling somehow crisp and light at the same time. Whenever beer rookies make the mistake of thinking dark=heavy (due to the influence of stouts), or that craft rookies make the mistake of thinking lager=lack of flavor, this would be a good beer to show them. Hope to find more in this style in the future.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle from Yamaichi. Medium-sharp malty nose, with raisins, grain, and light cola. Deep copper/brown. Sweet raisins, dates, harsh edge in mid from hopping, goes flat, and then a bit of sugary sweetness in final. Some alc. warmth. Medium body. Nose is promising, but flavors don’t develop very well.
