3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: FEB 11, 2012 Pours a chestnut brown with a bit of dark red. Aromas of malt, dry hops; bittersweet; reminds me of an IPA mixed with an American adjunct. Taste of sweet roasted malt mixed with bitter hops.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
I wasn’t too impressed by this Dunkler Bock. It indeed had some dark malts and it resulted in too much and unbalanced bitterness for my taste.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Beautiful clear redbrown beer. Very typical to the style, with the nut/oak-like bock flavour clearly dominating. The alcohol can be smelled and felt a bit too obviously for my taste, enhanced by bitterness. Palate is very pleasant, silky smooth with full body and low carbonation. Coming from the original Bock-brewer this beer serves well as a benchmark for other beers of the style.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Mar ’15. A 0.33 l bottle from some supermarket in Berlin. It poured clear copper body with a small head. Sweet malty aroma, alcohol, a bit earthy. Flavor was sweet too, but roasted component gets more into the focus, although caramel and brown sugar were probably still most dominating. Notable alcohol, too. Medium body with long sweet caramel finish and a light bitter alcohol bite. All in all, not bad as it might sound, but far from a good Dunkler Bock.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. Really nice cooper color with generous head and nice lacing. Smells like good bread with a citric note, well blended. Flavor is slightly metallic but like a robust pils. A little to the sweet side, though again fairly balanced.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Dark red color. Clear. Small-medium medium lasting light brownish head. Clear aroma of malts with touch of caramel. Just as I expect from dark bock style. Flavor is also malty with some grassy, earthy hop character in finish. Medium-full body. Overall: nice. Good example of style.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Slim-necked bottle from a supermarket in a Berlin mall. Tight beige over finely beaded bronze. Warming serious malt heft with notes of carob, dates and milk chocolate. Soggy fruit cake steeped in rum nose with lactic, fig and glacé cherry tones. Well done, rich and cakey. Not really my thing but I’ll take it.
