Bomber poured a hazy amber with a lasting ivory head. Aromas of wheat, yeast, carmel, light banana and a hint of clove. Palate was medium bodied and smooth. Flavors of wheat, yeast, carmel, light banana and a hint of clove with a smooth lingering carmel finish.

Bottle; poured a dull orange color that had a bit of depth. Quickly diminishing head. Aroma of wheat, earth, fruit, with some clove and sweetness. Wasn’t expecting too much, but actually it was quite enjoyable. Wheaty with a bit of earthy, perhaps smoky, elements. A touch of sweetness and fruit. A bit messy, but overall there was some nice flavor.

22oz bottle. Opaque amber color with a small head that quickly dissipates. Lemon, smokey, soy sauce, and herbal aroma. Similar flavor with a big savory finish and big sweetness. Lower carbonation and a full body. Something is wrong here, and I’m thinking fermentation/yeast autolysis and possible contamination problems.

Sampled on 6/18/2011. This Weizenbock pours a slightly hazy medium orange gold color from a 22oz bottle. Small to medium sized white foamy head. The aroma is caramel, fruity and sweet with a touch of funk and yeast. A medium bodied weizenbock. The malts are caramel and sweet, a touch bready and fruity. There is also a touch of funk and tartness, which I am not sure is supposed to be there. The hops are herbal and floral. Nicely balanced. Good carbonation. Interesting beer, the tartness kind of balances the malt sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.

A: Pours golden amber in color with a sizable white head with fairly poor retention.
S: Really a strange aroma for a weizenbock. Big time apple cider to it and very sweet, maybe some honey, but very little malt aroma. Decent enough banana and a very mild spice note, but not off to a good start.
T: More of that apple cider smell. Slightly spiced (clove and nutmeg), a hint of of banana, and almost no malt. Not any bread or wheat to it at all. The more I drink, the more this reminds me of soda.
M: Light to medium in body with a moderate level of carbonation.
O: Nothing like any Weizenbock I’ve ever had. Not something I plan on having again.
2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 DarkElf (2961) - La Jolla, California, USA - JAN 31, 2011
UPDATED: MAR 2, 2011 31-Jan-11 (22-oz bottle: Purchased 18-Jan-11 for $3.99 at Total Wine & More in Tustin, CA) The hazy, amber beer pours a short, bubbly head that fizzes away in the blink of an eye, leaving not even a small ring around the edge, so lacing is impossible. The nose offers aromas of fireplace, plantains, ripe bananas, apples, and dark bread. On the palate, the beer tastes like banana bread, smoked wood, green bananas, and clove, but the finish is heavily bready, with the finale of apple skins sending the beer over the edge into the unpleasant range. Medium in weight, but low in carbonation or anything else that could keep the palate feeling refreshed, so the beer finishes heavy and stale. Overall, this beer, like the other two I’ve tried from this brewery, is subpar. Three strikes and y’er out.

Tap at Naja’s. Pours hazy orange with a small, rocky white head, short retention with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, toasted), light hops (earthy), and average esters (banana). Flavor is heavy malt (bread, cookie, caramel, toasted), light hops (earthy), and average esters (banana) with notes of ginger. Medium body, warmth, and carbonation, low creaminess with a dry finish.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Oscbert (769) - Sacramento, California, USA - OCT 8, 2010
~Bready, bannana, malty aroma, dark fruits, plum and raisin, some clove spiciness.
~Pours a light golden amber with small lasting white head.
~Spicy phenol is in flavor and a bit harsh., banana yeast and bready malts.
~Med body, med CO2, rich sweet malty finish.
~Enjoyable Weizenbock. That spicy phenol in flavor throws balance out of whack. Possibly fermentation was a bit too hot. Nice aroma though!

22oz bottle. Rating #1. Very hazy dark orange/light brown with a thin white head. Big banana and clove aroma, I’m getting a bit of cinnamon as well, lots going on there. Sweet, lots of banana, like banana pancakes and a bit of booze, pretty good stuff. (1407)
