This limited-edition winter brew will make its debut in October, but this winter celebration ale is worth the wait. Malted barley and chocolate tones define the traditional style, while the robust aroma and long, mellow finish will make this the perfect companion for your holiday adventures.

Bottle, the only one I’ve had from them only in the States, marked 19.08.14. Nose is heavily chocolaty with some dark and burned roast, mild bg fruit, and a nice decocty maltiness. Pours a deep, slightly darker blood red, an absolutely stunning color for a Doppelbock, with basically no rising bubbles and a lacing, foamy beige head. Taste is pleasantly sweet, light-medium bitterness, lightly spicy/peppery yeast with very mild but cheerful fruit in the back. Up front is lovely, complex malt with all sorts of burned and toasted notes, light fig, and a rounded mouthfeel (again, stressing excellent decoction procedure here). Medium body, feels a little light at times, but not really any alcohol, and the caramel character flattens out/dulls only slightly. Only missing the rare DB pop to put it over the top. Great holiday treat!

330 ml bottle. Rich dark amber color with a rocky beige head. Light toasted malt nose. Crisp toasted malt flavor with notes of caramel and cocoa. Peppery hops in mid taste. Smooth and flavorful with complex sweet malt and spicy hops. A bit understated as doppelbocks go. Quite tasty though.

Dark amber color, small creamy head. Too light aroma. Has some caramel, but lacking the richness of a real Doppelbock; correct bitterness; clean.
The alcohol also confirms the flavor: this is just a Dunkler Bock.

It’s sweet with a caramel flavour. Medium body. Well balanced bitter sweet finish. I actually quite like this style. I should dig more.

Sampled @ ChrisO after GBBF day 2. Clear dark red color, small beige head. Smell and taste malts, a hint of caramel, quite bitter, a bit toasted, lightly bready. Hard to describe. Ok beer.

Mahogany colored clear beer with off-white big head leaving lacing. Aroma and flavor have earth, wood, herbs and dark fruits with sweet loafy and cakey malts. Palate is quite full with moderate carbonation and slight stinging of bitterness. Finishes with medium smooth bitterness, with sweet malty aftertaste. This doppelbock is a bit too sweet but nice.

0,33L bottle. Pours dark ruby with off white head. The head stays. Aroma is intense candy, caramel, and malt. Taste is sweet, caramel, fruits, roast, and brown sugar. Finish is caramel and mild bitter. Overall: good, but a little too sweet.
