Beautiful appareance in the glass, smell of caramel, hay and hops. Smooth taste with a long and complex aftertaste

Bottle. Who would have thought that this imressive example of one of my favourite styles would come from Iceland? Slightly sweet with a lingering quite sharp aftertaste. Left no lacing but certainly impressed me.

Tallahassee, Fl - ABC Fine Wine and Spirits - 11.2 oz bottle. Dark copper pour, medium thick off-white pour with a fair bit of lacing. Aroma has some toffee accents, some molasses, a hint of caramel. Flavor is full bodied and bold with some caramel. some hints of chocolate, a touch of molasses, and a back end of nuttiness. Mouthfeel is thick and sticky. Nice belly-warmer - even though it is early summer!

Bottle 20 nov 2011 Iceland Appearance: red/brown,clear, small white head. Aroma: caramel, herbs, woody, dry lemon, cheese, roasty, barley, spruce, barnyard, hints of dark chocolate. Taste: medium sweetness, lightly bitter, complex, lightly sour, Palate: medium dry, creamy, slick feel, soft carbonation, medium body, long finish, Overall: good doppelbock, great xmas beer, would like to try this one with a steak.

Bottle at home in London. Pours clear, red-brown with a staunch, off-white foam head. Some dark, slightly fermented grapes and other fruits in the nose, hints of chocolate and caramel. Big sweet flavor (unsurprisingly) with a strong punch of toffee, candied fruits, caramel, rich and toasty bread, raisins. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Mild warmth to finish with lots of toasty sugar, jammy fruits, raisins, prunes, caramel and toffee, bread, touches of booze, cake, light earthy hops, faint cocoa and light orange. Very solid doppelbock. Drinks quite well for the ABV with a very nice complexity of character.

31st August 2012: Icelandic or should I say ‘Einstok’ tasting evening at a mates house. He’d bought two bottles of four different Einstok brews. All poured carefully into a ‘Straffe Hendrik’ badged chalice. Last beer of the four was a 33cl Bottle of this (best before 10/2012). Dark brown, deep, deep amber coloured body with a thin almost white head on top. The malty nose had chocolate and toffee esters to the fore with caramel arriving later. The taste was also malty sweet, with the same flavours as the aromas except there was a distinct burnt bitterness towards the end of each gulp. Not sure whether it came from hops or the dark chocolate malts? Most enjoyable and the best of the four Icelandic beers I had that night.

Clear dark copper color with thin white head. Malty roasted hazelnut aroma. Sweet caramel and honyy flavors with a bit of smoky peat Has a somewhat tinny after taste.

Flaska @Kofinn, Reykjavik. Portvinsfärgad öl, med smutsvitt skum. Bränt socker, karamell och apelsinmarmelad i aromen. Röda bär, fikon, apelsin och karamell i smaken. Fin lång sötma i eftersmaken.

Bottle. Copper with light head. Malt and alcohol melange scent. Warm toasty flavour. A bit of caramel toffee. A hint of chocolate. Big body and texture.

Sampled on 2/19/2012. This dopplebock pours a medium brown color from a 33cl bottle. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is malty, bready and sweet, slightly smoky. A medium bodied dopplebock. The malts are fruity and sweet, beady and caramel, with a touch of brown sugar. The hops are earthy. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice caramel sweetness. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly sweet.
