American and Bavarian craft come together with the finest Icelandic water to create the Viking version of the Pale Ale, where robust hoppiness meets smooth malty undertones. Cascade hops give it the American character, while Northern Brewer hops add just enough bitterness to make this Ale refreshingly Icelandic.

Flaska.

330ml bottle from Oddbins. Small bubbly white head disappears quickly, a little lacing. Clear amber body. Nose is bready, a bit straw. Flavour is light grass and biscuit, nice hop bite on the finish. Decent lingering bitterness. Mouthfeel is good, medium carbonation with a bit of chew. Drinkable and well balanced.

Bottle. Dark amber pour with white head. Good lacing. Aroma has limited hops and is almost like a pilsner. Not bad but not what you would expect from a pale ale. Taste has some bitter notes and the beer leaves you with a dry mouth. Average carbonation

American-style pale ale commissioned by probably the northernmost beer producing company in Europe. Loose, greyish white, unstable head on an orange blonde, clear beer. Cooked pasteurized smell, caramel and nutty malts, bit of grass, iron, dried fruits. Relatively simple taste, malty, faintly sweetish, bit thin mouthfeel, caramelly and nutty, mineral-like, leafy hops in the finish. Interesting for being Icelandic but that is where the excitement stops.

Sampled @ Gents Bierfestival 2014. 330 ml. bottle. Clear orange, little white head. Light metallic nose with light citrus, ice water, straw,… Weak, bland touch metallic taste with hay, citrus, dough, banana, bubblegum, vegetables, weak grainy,… Touch watery, crazily bland & metallic, total weaksauce, this could almost pass for a pale lager.

Small but stable white head; clear copper coloured beer. Intense malt nose, quite toasted; toast or other hard cookies. Toasted, but more bitter than the malt onslaught from the nose would have suggested. Still quite some sweetness underneath - bit scanty, tastewise. Light, light body; faint gristslickness. Not so special. Then again, in the country of century-long abstinence...
