American and Bavarian craft come together with the finest Icelandic water to create the Viking version of the Pale Ale, where robust hoppiness meets smooth malty undertones. Cascade hops give it the American character, while Northern Brewer hops add just enough bitterness to make this Ale refreshingly Icelandic.

Bottle, bought @ Bierzwerg.de. Pours clear orange copper with a medium, staying, creamy, white head. Aroma has mild caramel, grapefruit, light resin, pine. Medium carbonation, fine dry mouthfeel. Flavour has caramel, light butterscotch, piney, resiny, light citrus. Lingering, nice herbal bitterness.

I split an 11.2oz bottle with two friends, we each poured it into sampler glasses. It was bottled on 4/3/14 and was sent to me by a friend in Florida (thanks, Mike!).

Appearance: Dark copper hue with a hazy, dirty body. Pours to an average-sized, white, soapy head which mostly dissipates but does leave a little lacing.

Smell: Strong lemony lollipop aroma (usually indicative of oxidation). Slight English malt character is noticeable.

Taste: I’ll admit that this review really isn’t “fair” since the bottle is so old. However, I may never be able to try it again so I’ll document what I experienced. Judging by the label description, this seems to be an attempt at an American-style pale ale with the inclusion of Cascade and Northern Brewer hops, though the strong malty character and yeast strain seems to be British. Since it’s old, the hops have faded and the beer drinks like a rich amber ale. There’s a distinct lemony flavor with a hint of caramel or bread. It’s completely unbalanced, though. I’d imagine a fresh bottle would be much better, and I didn’t even mind the fact this was old beer (that much). Drinkable yes, but not especially enjoyable.

Drinkability: I was a little surprised to see this weighed in at 5.6% ABV as the mouthfeel was noticeably thin and slightly under carbonated (again, probably due to age). At least it wasn’t cloying and finished nearly completely clean. Not refreshing, but not a challenge to drink, either.

UPDATED: MAR 20, 2015 If you’re in 200 feet of single bottle options at Total Wine -- over 2500 bottles to choose from -- & one of them is from Iceland you know you’re gonna put it in your basket. Great label, makes me think of Skyrim (yes, I too am Dragonborn). If you’re looking for an American version of a pale ale (you should probably ask yourself why you always need things to be the same stylistically) you won’t find it here. It’s more malts, subdued hops & low carbonation. Pretty tasty, smooth, easy drinking.

Woody/spicy hop aroma with notes of caramel. Gold appearance with a small white head with poor lacing. Flavor is slightly towards the bitter side. Hops have notes of wood, spice with some background notes of grapefruit. Malt is bready with notes of caramel. Fruity esters are medium. Medium light body with medium carbonation. Overall, it tastes like an English style pale ale. Hop aroma and flavor is muted. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cascade hops are completely gone. Besides that, this beer is a pretty good pale ale. To compare it to an English pale ale it would need some more sweetness and bitterness. Not to say this beer isn't balanced. It has more of a body of an English ipa then a pale ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

33 cl bottle @ Gastropub Nordic. BBE 07.12.2015.
Pours clear copper color with a small head. Malty aroma with some orange and resin, faint hops and grass. Very malty and nutty flavor, some orange and biscuits too. Too nutty and malty for my taste, feels a bit old too despite the bbe date, more like an EPA really.

Clear amber colour with a short to medium lasting foam. A slight taste of caramel and some earthy tones place this beer closer to a brown ale than I expected. The palate and feel of it reminds me of a lager more than a pale ale. Not bad at all but not my favourite.

330ml bottle from First Edition, Kilmarnock. My first ever Icelandic beer and not one to leave a lasting impression though not too bad. Tastes more like a decent lager than a pale ale.

bottle @ Grassroots Natural Market / Jacksonville FL --- Hazy, dark amber with a 2" rocky off-white head, mottled wall of lace. Taste is malt with light caramel that adds mild citrus hops on the swallow to share the ride through the finish. At the back end, malt sweetness prevails. A standard Pale Ale, but pretty well done.
