COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With clear notes of espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of authentic Icelandic coffee, this Porter is dark and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate and easy to drink. There’s no need to be afraid of the dark anymore.

From a bottle into a 2016 New Belgium stem glass. Pours near black with medium head and lace. Aroma of dark malts, chocolate, espresso. Significant carbonation and mouthfeel. Flavors of burnt malts, espresso, bitter chocolate, minerals, bitter herbs, funky fruit rind. Overall rich, bold, tasty but with some rough edges.

Pours black with a big-ish light brown head, nice lacing. Nose is very roasty: chocolate/cocoa, dark bread and crust, coffee, smoke, hints of prunes. Taste is roasty bitter with some roasty acidity and some sweetness in the background. Medium/light body and carbonation, somewhat powdery texture (like cocoa). Roasty goodness!

Bottle from Firma Bier, BB 30/Mar/2018, large sample. Dark color, medium frothy head. Aroma of lots of roast and loads of dark bread, slight coffee, bit fruity notes, slight lactic even. Roasty in taste, bit fruity bitterness, slight dry coffee bitterness as well. Lots of flavor with all the dark malts and the coffee, not perfectly balanced, but nonetheless very tasty stuff.

Where: Old Line Fine Wine Spirits & Bistro. How: 12 ounce bottle. Appearance: pretty dark brown, with a big fluffy mocha colored head and a good amount of lacing. Aroma: Smells of cocoa, medium roast coffee, chocolate malt and smokey firewood with hints of vanilla beans. Taste: Taste is roasted malts, light coffee, and a bit of toasted grain. Palate: It has a rich medium body. Overall: Subtle toasted grains and toasted almond notes are the highlights here. The body is a bit thin, some tinny, metallic nature creeps in. Sweet chocoalte, not a lot of depth body and flavor wise.
