COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With clear notes of espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of authentic Icelandic coffee, this Porter is dark and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate and easy to drink. There’s no need to be afraid of the dark anymore.

Bottle @ Zentraleuropäischer Wahnsinn 2. Bottle from Sabine - thank you! Pours cloudy dark brown with small tan head. Clear aroma of rasted malt and coffee beans. Slighly rasty onset with sweetish malty notes and touches of caramel. Bitter-sweet finish, a mild one. OK

Bottle 330 ml from Maruhn - Darmstadt (D). Black Porter with an average and fleeting brown-beige head. Strong aroma of roasted, chocolate, coffee, dust and nuts. The taste is typical Porter, soft, toasted, choc, coffee, vanilla. However it’s rather slight, without acridity and heavy hop. Robust, hints of fruits, licorice, slight bitterness of roasted and finally dry.

Wow, I actually found an unrated brew in my stash (garage min-fridge) - lots of ticks in town recently and I must have gotten sidetracked. I’m not sure that a 12 oz longneck could have a better appearance - clean label and graphics, dark beer that you can’t see through, dense tan head. Maybe if the bottle was embossed or had a silver foil neck, but this is close enough to a 5 for appearance. Mellow, nutty sweet malty aroma with faint cane syrup/light molasses. Exceptionally smooth - nice roast, mild coffee - low bittering otherwise. Dry, zero fruit, no toffee or caramel Medium body, roasty/toasted soy nut finish. Quality. ABC Liquors, Bull Run.

Toasted malt, super-smooth with some chocolate in the finish. Enjoyable beer.
