With clear notes of espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of authentic Icelandic coffee, this Porter is dark and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate and easy to drink. There’s no need to be afraid of the dark anymore.

Aroma is slightly malty and toasty with some coffee notes, but doesn’t have a great carry. Appearance is watery but dark with a small off white head. The taste was a bit toasty and malty, but also a little stale and bitter. Coffee taste was present but not overly robust. Palate was thin, but carbonation carries the finish.

Black creamy light brown head, good lacing. Medium roasted, dry, pure smoke aroma, bit ash, milk chocolate, nice! Medium body, round, low carbonation, lots of chocolate, long finish, coffee, mocca. Good stuff, tasty, pure flavors, good balance.

Dark brown to black color, tan head - intense roasted / toasted malt aroma, coffee, some hints of milk, chocolate, licorice, maybe some caramel and earthy, yet very mild hops - slightly sweet and slightly bitter taste - medium to full body, full and creamy mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation - long, slightly bitter finish with hints of roasted coffee beans.

Overall a solid simple but well executed porter. Nothing really over the top, just an enjoyable and easy to drink beer. Sweet and toasty, well balanced. Slight lingering bitterness. Nice experience but there are definitely better porters out there.

Medium beige head. Hazy dark brown body. Earthy rubbery popcorn aroma with grainy notes. Dry-sweet roasty caramelly earthy taste with licorice notes. Mid-bodied. Mild, soft mouthfeel. Dryish mealy earthy chocolate aftertaste with mineraly notes. Nice, drinkable, but maybe a bit low on character. (0.33l bottle, from Vinbudin Kringlan, Reykjavik. Rated July 2014.)

I split an 11.2oz bottle with two friends. We each poured it into a sampler glass. It was bottled on 12/9/14 and was sent to me by a friend in Florida (thanks, Mike!).

Appearance: Murky, mud-like hazy brownish/red. Pours to a fairly large, tan, frothy head which retains and laces well.

Smell: Fairly typical porter aroma, though milder than most. The toasted malt is subtle. There seems to be a slight tang to the aroma as I swear I detect a tuna-like scent.

Taste: If I didn’t know what I was drinking, I’d probably think this was someone’s homebrewed porter. It definitely has all the characteristics you look for in the style, only nothing about it really pops. Toasted dark malt is certainly the most prominent, but it’s not quite as robust as I was expecting (or hoping for). This is closer to a traditional brown ale with sweet caramel and a touch of toffee. It’s also quite hoppy as there’s genuine bitterness here and it accentuates the toasted character well. Overall, it’s still pretty mild and uncomplicated, but there’s nothing off-putting about the palette.

Drinkability: At 6% ABV, this is not exactly the thick, viscous syrup the label would seem to indicate it is. The mouthfeel is medium at best with a fairly high amount of carbonation. Still, it’s smooth and leaves little aftertaste. Probably a little too light to stand up to savory food, but would work as a tailgating beverage.

Dark - almost black with a touch of some red/brown colors in the light. Seems to be a not heavy porter like other nordic types of roasted and dark beers. Aroma of sweet roasted coffee beans and a hint of fresh hops. Quite sharp in the nose as opposed to the full body of the smell - it hist you very clearly in the nose but still with quite som strength. A fresh type of porter - a little sparkly on the toungue. Begins with a clear roast taste but suddenly it is overwhelmed by a pointy feel of the coffee beans and followed by a light bitterness that stays for some time. Somewhat creamy and fizzy. The freshness isbest described as a bubbly and light feel - as opposed to oily thickness. The creamyness is not powerful, but theres is something about it. Overall a very pleasant beer - fresh as the Icelandic air during fall and strong and powerful as the Vikings who first went there. Maybe it is my Viking blood and Nordic-filia - but there is something about this beer that makes me very happy and makes me enjoy this dark evening.

Black, strong beige head. Chocolate, coffee, dark caramel and roastiness on the nose. Full body, sweet with bitter roasty notes of dark chocolate, dark caramel and maybe some coffee. Finishes bittersweet and roasty. Very very roasty overall, but without going overboard. Lovely.
