COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
With clear notes of espresso, dark chocolate and a hint of authentic Icelandic coffee, this Porter is dark and rich, offering a medium body that is robust, yet smooth on the palate and easy to drink. There’s no need to be afraid of the dark anymore.

The head is brown and robust, the body is black. It smells sweet, chocolate, a bit roasty, creamy. The taste is sweet, a bit roasted toasty, but more darkmalty-strange, a bit chocolate. In the aftertaste a bit roastmalty, bitter. I most like the aftertaste. Drinkable. 13/11/10/10/13/10

Pours a dark brown, a little thin, but nice brown color and good khaki colored head. Roasted malt, coconut, and coffee on the nose; follows onto the palate. Finishes with roasted and toasty flavors.

Bottled November 5, 2014. Glass: Tired Hands pub glass.
Appearance: Deep opaque chestnut body with a tall light tan head.
Aroma: I smell big malts (Maris Otter?) slightly stale with a bit of caramel, roast and chocolate.
Taste: Bit of chocolate and caramel, no real signs of roast despite coffee, and a sort of stale malt base.
Palate: Medium bodied, mildly carbonated.
Overall: This is the second beer that tastes a bit stale. I am guessing they don’t have their brewing practices fully down yet. I imagine that brewing isn’t as caught up in knowledge as in the US. This tastes like a decent homebrew, but the malts taste a bit stale and perhaps some oxidation is noted. I would love to try this in Iceland though, perhaps the journey has hurt it.

I remember back a couple years ago when no one wanted to try Einstok and every time I got this on discount, it was literally like drinking gold. It runs so smooth for a porter with a nice smokey taste that’s very rich :)
