Commercial Description:
Eisenbahn’s Defumada, very much like the famous smoked lagers of Bamberg, Germany, is brewed with a special, smoked barley malt, giving it a rich, smoky flavor and aroma. A delicious and immensely satisfying lager.
Ideal temperature: from 4 to 6 degrees

Bottle. Pours a clear golden amber with thin lasting off-white head. Aroma is slightly smokey with caramel maltiness. Flavor is sweet with light smoke and caramel fruits. Very interesting. Smoke is never my favorite, but this is a very interesting beer. I’m rating it before finishing the beer. The smoke may get to me before the end.

Bottle at O’briens. Pours with a deep amber body topped by a thin to medium thick, quickly disappearing head wtih some lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and malty with a hint of grassy hops. Not really any smokey notes. The flavor is sweet and smokey with notes of molasses. Kinda tastes like smoked salmon. Light bodied, crisp and a little dry.

12 ounce bottle in tumbler (no beer glasses at my mother’s in AZ). Clear amber with lasting flat head. Mild smoke, grass, and brown sugar aroma. Sokey sweet brown sugar with medium lager grassiness, mild bitter finish. Some cloying sugary sweetness. Medium-ligh body and medium carbo. A little too sweet and cloying but a worthy attempt at a somewhat rare style.

Pours a reddish brown with a small off white head. Aroma of smoke, malt, caramel and meat. Flavor of smoke, bacon, dough with a nice sweet malty finish. I’ve never been big on smoke beers but this is well balanced and pretty decent for the style.

Bottled. Thanx omhper! Red-brown colour with fluffy, pretty low head. Gentle smokey aroma with a touch of bacon. Smoke, caramel and dough are present in maltiness. Good beer but not great. Medium body.

Pours amber / red-brown with light off white and non-persistent head. Nice medium smoky-malty aroma with little to no hop aroma. Great bacon-smoke flavor in the Rauchbier tradition. Low to medium hop bitterness. Has a "fortified" taste that I have detected in a couple other Brazilan beers, and I don’t know what it is. Almost like Coca-Cola was used as sugar to jack up the alcohol. Medium bodied. Whether it is this Rauchbier or better yet, an Schlenkerla, you must have this style of beer when eating a Reuben sandwich!!

12-oz bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours copper with a small, fizzy, off-white head, mostly diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is average malt (cookie, caramel), light hops (herbs), average yeast (dough) with notes of root beer, smoke, green wood, and brown sugar. Light bodied, sticky texture, lively carbonation, and a metallic finish. Long duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; flavor of teriyaki beef jerky.

12oz bottle. Transparent amber-caramel color. Smoky sweet aroma brings you back to Bamberg. Very smoky in flavor, with the full malt sweetness that you’d find in the best Rauchbiers. Moderately high alcohol and accompanying warmth don’t really help to accentuate the smoky, smooth qualities of the style. Other than that, a really great beer.
