3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ABUSEDGOAT (1937) - USA - APR 17, 2008
Amber colored, almost no head, not much lacing or retention. Although, this was a ’glass’ sample at a bar so I’m gonna let that slide. There was still carbonation, etc etc. Aroma is very fruity, somewhat yeasty and I’m even getting a little bit of smoke. Medium bodied, quite sweet, very enjoyable.

750 ml corked and caged green bottle poured a clear tarnished gold with a lingering ring of off white foam. Aromas of straw, fruittiness and light spice. Palate was medium bodied and smooth with a dry finish. Flavors of straw, fruittiness, light yeat and a hint of spice with a smooth dry lingering fruity finish.

This bottle did not pop. Temperature just below room temperature. Lager yeast, a hoppy lager with significant yeast. Big lace on yellow head. Carbonation right there. Interesting but unexceptional.Courtesy of Ralph who shared.

Bottle brought by someone over at dbuckingham’s place. A bit of a gusher. Pours clear golden with a huge white head billowing up the glass. Big brett and champagne on the aroma with slight smoky rubbery notes. Infection? On the flavor, yeah, there’s an infection. Smoky burnt rubber, brett, cattiness, champagne, and some pale malt. Not terrible despite the infection, but really not good. Medium-bodied with very lively carbonation that the infection no doubt aided. Overall, could be worse, but was pretty off. Watch out for this one.

A-pours a golden color, bright, slight haze to it with some sediment floating around. the head is fluffy and bubbly with an off white head.
S-hints of sourness with a touch of funky earthiness. notes of bubblegum, vinegar, chocolate undertones.
T-lots of sourness in the taste, an earthy soil like funk, dry chocolate, tobacco, smoked peat, hints of peach and bubblegum in the back.
M-rough and grainy on the palate, messy carbonation, astringent in the back, medium body.
D-a little rough on the palate with the huge carbonation and extremely grainy feel. the flavors are interesting, not bad but they don’t seem to mesh that well together.

20100515 Sampled at PilsnerPeter’s 2nd Annual Spring Gathering. Golden, foamy, gusher. Aroma is a funky kick in the pants with lemon, cider, brie, and band aid. Maybe off, but maybe not. Who knows just what they’re going for. This concept of a champagne style beer is lost on me.

Cloudy golden pour with lots of floaties and a thin white head. The aroma and flavor is sweet and yeasty over a light body with gentle carbonation. Not bad, but definitely not memorable.

Bottle at Peter’s 2nd annual spring gathering. This was just horrible. Bottle was definitely infected, enormously large head and a hell of a gusher. Spicy funk and infections on the nose. Utterly nasty. Only beer of the day that I literally ran to the sink to spit out.
3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 MrChopin (2213) - Baltimore, Maryland, USA - MAY 20, 2010
Taste at PilsnerPeter’s 2nd Annual Gathering Gushed everywhere. Gold with a white head. Alcohol, bubblegum, and lemon rule the nose. Sweeter flavor of lemon and honey, some light yeast. Thin, zesty body highlights the rather weak profile, and there’s too much contrast between the nose and the flavor. The sweetness doesn’t help either.

Bottle from New Beer. This one was a gusher and eventually poured a vibrant bronze with loads of fizzy head. Aroma of bubblegum, hay, and lemon. Flavor is lemon, barnyard, yeast, bubblegum phenols, and pine hops. I really like the champagne feel with the Belgian notes. Light but sharp body. Basically an average Belgian with a mouthfeel that’s a nice change of pace.
