COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Bottle dated best before 2007, estimated at about 5 or 6 years old, courtesy of Brewnoser. Dark amber body with a small beige head that fades. Sweet caramel aroma, sugars and caramel malt. Sweet caramel malt flavour is lovely with a dry not in the finish. Average palate is smooth. (3+) Quite nice, this had stood up marvelously if its that old! Many thanks for the chance to try this, it was quite pleasant. Amazed that this is rated so low.

Surprised I hadn’t rated this one yet, as it is a beer I return to from time to time as a palate check. How much I enjoyed it this time around is definitely reflective of my constantly evolving tastes for beer. It tasted like I remembered, except the cloying sweetness of my memory has changed into a rich maltiness. Medium amber, slight head fades immediately. Aroma a strong shot of caramel and sherry. Flavor matches, caramel, a touch of molasses smokiness, faint sherry notes apparent in the alcohol, and a bit flour that reminds me of the smell of homemade play-do and a project I did once in elementary school of a vinegar volcano. But no vinegar notes. I digress. Enjoyable.

Man Law: For real men only. This one poured like honey from the bottle. Beautiful golden hue topped with a dark cream colored head. Pungent sweet sorghum-like aromas similar to a fine licquer greeted my nose. The mouthfeel was full bodied and thick. The flavor was aromatic honey, malt to the extent that it tasted almost like a brandy. The 11% ABV was very noticable and lingered for a long time during the aftertaste! This is a sipper for sure!

UPDATED: OCT 25, 2006 Wow! Talk about a Malt Monster! On tap at Über in Seattle into an EKU 28 style tall snifter glass. Pours a deep to light reddish orange hue with a tiny white head that quickly dissappears. The aroma is 100% sweet malt for the most part. There is some brown sugary tones in there somewhere, but really is over taken by a huge malt factor. The flavor is like a malty syrup that coats the palate, tasting first of that huge sweet malt you smell on the nose, mixed with raisins, brown sugars, and dark fruits...and again everything gets overtaken by malt! Once this malt sweep happens, a very "in-your-face" alcohol flavor sweeps over the mouth, definitely being able to feel the burn on the way down. I think you’ve got to be into this sort of this, and sometimes it done a lot better than this, but I kind of liked it! Didn’t know the EKU 28 was an Eisbock until I read here, but I can totally see that now. Overall, not the best Eisbock ever, but definitely a strong malt madman if you’re looking for one.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2007 [tap @ Bukowski’s] Dark brown/amber color- not much of a head (or bubbles) at all. Aroma of raspberry candy, yeast, caramel. Ultra-sweet, syrupy malt flavors. Not bad, but not really balanced at all. A bit too heavy on the alcohol end of things for me.

Slighty nutty and a bit spicey with loads of caramel and toffee in the nose; dissipating head; licorice and brown sugar, almost cloying sweetness; tart and woody finish; dead, viscous body.
