Bottle at Firkin’s, Libertyville, IL. Clear amber hued having a rapidly diminishing large off-white head with excellent lacing. Heady sweet malt aroma with hints of toffee and fruits. Full-bodied with heavy consistency of maple syrup. Starts with smooth creamy malt flavor with slight hop and finishes thickly with slight cloying sweet flavor with some hop touches. Definite alcoholic warmth. A tasty drinkable eisbock beer that’s best enjoyed without food.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Fulkrum78 (175) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 27, 2005
Overall, not a bad beer. I tried The Ayinger the night before though and this one isn’t in the same class. Nice head, with decent lacing that faded quickly. Overall, I’d drink it again if it was available but not something I would go out of my way for.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 roder60 (1234) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 22, 2005
Poured a light amber pink clear color with lots and lots of bubbles and a small amount of white head. Looks to me like a glass of raspberry 7up. Aroma is very fruity, kinda a mix of raspberry and pears and some burbony alcohol undertones. Flavor is very acidicy and fruity with a whole bunch of alcohol punch. Almost tastes like cough medicine in a weird way. Brings back bad childhood nyquil memories. Overall, started decent, but couldnt get past nyquil stuff.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Ughsmash (5626) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - OCT 20, 2005
Bottle. Clear medium amber pour with just a hint of red to it. Thin layer of beige head. Strong aroma of freshly cut wheat, pears, plums, toffee, and a hint of brandy. First impression in the mouth is heavy, malty, boozy sweetness. More big hits of dark fruit and alcohol followed. This became thicker and more cloying as it wamed. Not the most complex brew, but was definitely palatable and warming.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 wxman (888) - O’Fallon, Illinois, USA - OCT 13, 2005
Sweet aroma of malty brandy (if there is such a thing) and alcohol. Appearance is clear amber with a thin white head. Taste is cloyingly sweet caramel maltiness with alcohol really up front and throughout. Brandylike warmth follows along with malt sweetness. Not very complex, but not bad either considering the 11% ABV. One of these once in a while is enough.
2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 5/20 restless7 (104) - Lenexa, Kansas, USA - OCT 4, 2005
At first I thought "Nice color, aroma not my favorite but not bad". The longer I drank it the worse it got. I’ve had beers with higher alcohol content which tasted much better than this. I am not a fan of bitter beers in general and this was no exception.
