COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Bottle courtesy mlunger12! Clear amber pour with a small ring of khaki head. Very sweet malty aroma with a hint of cardboard and dark fruits. Sweet malty flavor with a hint of metal. Nothing great here.

Heaven knows how old this 0.33l bottle is but the best-before is 2005. When I popped the top it wanted to climb out but probably discovered it was too heavy. Poured a thick red-brown with a brownish head and aroma of sweet yeasty wort and a faint hint of smoky-beef flavoured crisps. More weird beef or Bovril flavours on the palate, sweet with hints of plums and a woody character. I think it’s oxidised more than I’d expect in an 11%-er, on the other hand I remember drinking the other 2 in the 3-pack not long after buying it, and not being impressed then either.

From the bottle, pours a clear red like jello. Rich malty aroma with notes of cherries. Taste is thick and super malty. That about covers it. Decent brew but not something you want on a hot day.

Bottle, pours light amber, not much head or lacing. Distinct alcoholic odor, obviously lots of candy, notes of iron but not bad for an Eisbeer. Still very sweet, and not built on much.

12oz bottle, this is absolutly horrible, sweet and metallic, this is not good. Stick to Aventinus, this is way to sweet, way to boozy, just a mess.

Bottle. Light amber, small fully diminishing head. Moderate malty and caramel sweet aroma, dark berries and lots of alcohol. Body is medium to full, malty and sweet flavor, caramel and fruitiness, alcohol. Finish is short to average, malty and sweet, fruity with faint hoppyness, lots of alcohol. Sugary sweet bock…that’s it.

Alcohol very present, strong malt and sweetness, rather good, just not really an everyday beer to say the least due to the alcohol.

11.2 ounce returnable bottle. Bottle says its a replacement for sherry or port. I think I’d rather have beer than those, hopefully this one isn’t too boozy. Pours into my Duvel glass with a caramel/white colored head that rises to the brim. It recedes within a few minutes and leaves no lacing behind. Has a orange/copper color with a few bubbles to be seen. Has a distinctly alhocholic scent. Some ripe fruits (raisin, banana, apple) are there with some major dark caramel sugar. It smells decent but provides a warning of the alcohol stored up in this one. It has a thick creamy almost chewy mouth feel, that was not expected. Its also suprisingly not as strong as suspected. The carbonation is just enough, the sweetness is a bit cloying but not overly sweet or offensive. Alcohol barrages the mouth and throat each sip. Overall it’s a heavy duty potent brew that has to be respected in order to enjoy it properly. The other brew of this caliber that I tried was Samichlaus and this blows it out of the water although this is something i would only drink on say Christmas or Thanksgiving. For strong German brews I think the Eisbocks are the best bet.
