pours amber with a medium sized tan head, aromas of sweet malt, fruit, & alcohol, taste is sweet, fruity, and loaded with alcohol, not bad, but it is every bit an 11% beer.

Strong and sweet nose is first evidence of high alcohol levels. Slightly brownish red color is headless and murky. Strong tea flavors are most dominant, alcohol burns on the way down. One dimensional, strong malty lager. No hints of fruit here.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 14/20 Crosling (1861) - Loveland, Colorado, USA - OCT 27, 2004
Copper. Bursting aroma of apples, toffee, band-aid, caramel, burnt popcorn kernels, herbs and sweet deep malt. Flavor begins with a variety of dark fruits (plums, apples). The mid-palate is pretty non-existant but does possess a subtle note of sherry. The finish is very pleasant and contains notes of burnt butter toffee, alcohol and dark fruits. A nice beer with a well hidden alcohol but lacking body, in a serious way. Nonetheless, a serious beer that seems to be a little underated to me. I enjoyed this.

Bottle - thanks to BeerCellar2 for the trade. Pours clear amber orange with no head. Aroma is sweet, burnt candy sweet, toasted powder sugar sweet with mixed floral and wood notes. Flavor is also sweet with lots of alcohol evident, somewhat burning - like a liquier and contrary to their commercial description, somewhat cloying. Full bodied and no carbonation. Definitely a unique brew, but not my favorite style.
2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20 joet (1851) - Fulton, California, USA - SEP 16, 2001
Candy sugar aroma over a thin headed and leggy swirl. Hmmm... like rum with training wheels? Blaring alcohol heat on the tongue and stomach reminescent of Vicks 44D. Unfinishable.

This guys created mixed feelings.. some loved it, other didn’t know what to think. Its defiantly a sipper, sweet initially then bitters. Not overly sweet or syrupy. Leaves alcohol skid marks on the back of the throat. Not really complex but good, and strong! Interesting too
