3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Capa (1543) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - NOV 26, 2007
Clear orange in color with minimal white head. Sweet caramelized aroma with fruits, apricots, burnt sugar, and a touch of alcohol. Thick body. This is almost a delicious beer. Carmalized malts, sugar, apricots, and alcohol. The alcohol is too intense, burning like a shot of vodka. The finish is mostly sweet alcohol. I was initially intrigued and excited by the flavor untill the alcohol kicked in. I generally enjoy big, intense beers. But I would have liked a more mellow, well blended beer. Still, on a cold winters night this would be a fine beer to have.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 jb (1538) - Rochester, New York, USA - MAY 16, 2007
Copper colored with a thick head. Very boozy aroma with caramel notes and maltiness. Palate is sticky with dried fruit taste and a bit of bite. Not as much going on as some doppelbocks, thus not one of my faves.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 crazyvin (1535) - New York, USA - MAY 6, 2011
A disappointment. Body had a clear copper color to it head was off-white and about a half an inch thick. While the retention was nice this beer had no lace to it. Aroma seemed to be all malts some caramel notes and some fruit notes. No real indication of the alcohol in both aroma and flavor. Taste was primarily sweet mostly of caramel and maybe something like brown sugar. There was a slight oak/vanilla hint to it in the finish that was very mild but kept the beer from being cloyingly sweet.
watery mouth feel.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 NosirIwont (1535) - Aalborg Vestby, DENMARK - JUL 19, 2011
Bottle. Pours a clear, deep golden/amber with an off-white/yellowish head. Sweet aroma with fruity and grainy notes and an alcoholic overtone. A wee bit cloying. Flavour is fat, sweet, alcoholic, fruity and grainy. Full-bodied. Sweet, almost sugary finish with a tart note and a mild bitterness thrown in. Lingering alcoholic and grainy notes. Overall okay, but too grainy for my liking. 19.07.11.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Rusty (1509) - Mesa, Arizona, USA - FEB 10, 2008
12 oz bottle. Pours a nice orangeish yellow color with a little creamy head. Smells like Malt and sugar. This beer has a nice underlying sweetness that masks it’s 11%abv quite well. A very pleasant Eisbock indeed. :)
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 diabel (1503) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - AUG 6, 2004
Frothy, off-white head which diminishes fully. Virtually no lace. Normally clear, orange body. Yeasty (dough), hoppy (flowers) and port aroma. Moderately acidic, lightly bitter initial flavour. Lightly acidic, lightly bitter (long-lasting) finish. Fully bodied. Lively carbonation. Moderately alcoholic feel.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 MaiBockAddict (1498) - Good Beer Bar Deprived, New Jersey, USA - JAN 21, 2005
Bottle. I have always liked this one, but it is not for everyone. This is a malt monster by every definition, although Samiclaus and Urbock 23 I think are superior. Golden and clear, with not much of a head. Massive malt aroma, with vanilla, a touch of alcohol, and various candies. Big malty, malt-wine flavor. No bitterness, just malt. Slight alcohol bite. Nice fire-sipping cold night brew.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - JAN 9, 2011
Appearance: pours thick and slightly syrupy for a heavy amber and copper brilliance that is both bright and muted at the same time; aged. Coppery head starts thick but fades fast. Appearance of liquid sap.
Nose: sweet, rich, and lovingly boozy. Plums, raisins, apricots are all stewed in spices and sherry. Rum cake. Cinnamon sticks. Old world decadence and richness.
Palate: just as nose promised and more. Immediately warming; gentle and soothing. Spiced and sticky up front and dry in the finish. Warm in the middle and lingers in the chest. Plums and apricots are stewed long and slow, boozy, with hints of sherry and spice. Cinnamon sticks and wood in the finish. As warms apple skins, grapes, and peaches. Slightly sticky lips; honeycomb. Meadish quality with the honeycomb and warmth richness of alcohol. Sophisticated and complex.
Final Thoughts: super big thanks to Tim for this gem. My only regret is that I had but one bottle. Definitely a staple that would always be in my cellar if readily available.
