3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Beardface (1480) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - AUG 17, 2009
12 oz bottle Market of Choice. Was having a cheap(er) drinking night last night and was intrigued by an 11% bottle that only cost 2.50. Poured out a clear copper color with a very light white head. Aroma full of caramel, toffee, raisins and booze. Flavor was sugar, caramel, toffee, light raisin/fig type fruit and a big booze finish. This one will certainly get the job done and at 11% it’s a great way to get an inexpensive buzz on.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 porterhouse (1479) - Alna, Maine, USA - APR 29, 2007
(Bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/portland/ target=blank>Downeast Beverage Co.) Hot vanilla sweetness...Pours clear slightly reddish orange with one finger of biege head. Nose is sweet sugar-candy malt. Palate is smooth and syrupy. Taste is quite hot, lots of vanilla and sugar candy sweetness. Like drinking a hot liquer. I like this style but this one I wouldn’t recommend.
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 DeanF (1477) - Iqaluit, Nunavut, CANADA - DEC 12, 2009
Rating number 300!! This has a decent dark amber colour and pours with a little bit of head, but not a lot. Plenty of carbonation in the glass. Aroma is grains, sugars, smells quite syrupy and sweet. Taste is quite a strong mix of caramel and malts, very very sweet and hard to drink. I found it quite unappealing actually, and was expecting better.
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 rocbyter (1473) - Waterbury, Connecticut, USA - MAY 1, 2010
Strong caramel malt aroma. Clear orange color with a small white head. Sweet throughout this one. Mild alcohol burn in the finish. Moderately thick palate.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 IPFreely (1471) - Sanborn, New York, USA - FEB 28, 2004
Clear amber color, off white head, fully diminishing. Very sweet malt aroma, some alcohol. Flavor is big time malt, very sweet, not too sweet but damn close to my tolerance of sweet. Alcohol is fairly assertive, but overall masked pretty well. Full body. Not bad but it'll test your sweetness threshold.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 wlajwl (1470) - Iowa, USA - FEB 21, 2011
Alcohol very present, strong malt and sweetness, rather good, just not really an everyday beer to say the least due to the alcohol.
3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 heavy (1466) - Split, CROATIA - FEB 4, 2008
0.33 l bottle from a Merkur in Graz. Well, my first Eisbock, finally something to try my snifter on. Poured very nice orange-red body with medium pale orange head that went down fast with impressive sound. Interestingly, very weak aroma, malty, alcoholic like a whisky with maybe even some plums or similar dark fruits on the threshold of imagination. Flavor let’s say full bodied, bitter in very strange way, muled whiskey and brandy kind of alcoholic, pretty simple, yet it tends to show some new components. I’ve felt also bit of oak, caramel and some spices. In the finish pretty much of the flavor is felt, but with some sweetness rounding it all. Very warming, maybe I should’ve kept it until the weekend and share with friends, when we will sleep on a mountain in tents at about -20°C :) All in all, not bad indeed, but nothing special, so I expect more from my next Eisbock. Definitely not an everyday drink.
2.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20 Jokes (1453) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 27, 2003
Pours a nice, but light, amber color that is crystal clear and has a thin, off-white head. The aroma is quite interesting, strong alcohol, bready malt, a light sweetness and very identifiable strength. The flavor is a little too sweet for me. Toffee and simple syrup dominate behind the overpowering alcohol. I don't mind a big beer, but not one that tastes like alcohol with hints of nothingness in the back.
