3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 guzzler67 (1373) - Hanover, Maryland, USA - MAR 18, 2008
Clear, deep amber appearance with a large tan head that faded quickly and left modest lacing. Toffeeish, sweet malt and ripe fruit aroma. Woodsy/earthy taste mingles with the alcohol, giving it a dessert wine-like edge. Sweetness linger through to the finish, with the alcohol dominating the aftertaste.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 golubj (1372) - San Mateo, California, USA - SEP 27, 2008
bottle thanks to bitbucket. caramel pour with some off white head. aroma is intensly sweet malt, bubblegum like, somewhat fruity, and still a tad grainy. flavor is exactly the same with a small malt / alcohol bite. it really reminds me of the huge budweiser private reserve that i had around christmas a couple years back.
1.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 TaxiDriver (1372) - Stadland, GERMANY - MAY 22, 2008
Bottle. Very malty smell, a little bit like molasses, moderate alcoholic. A small off-white fizzy head, fast and fully diminishing, a dark red body. Moderate bitter start and finish on the palate, average duration. Heavy alcoholic taste, medium to full body, oily texture and a flat carbonation.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 savnac (1365) - Anchorage, Alaska, USA - OCT 30, 2010
11.2 oz bottle. Clear amber with a quickly dissipation off white head. Aroma of caramel, graham cracker, plum, and some alcohol. The flavor is lots of sweet sugary malt, some caramel, bread and grains, with light alcohol heat. Thick medium body with mild carbonation and a sweet, syrupy mouth feel. This is a sweet one and a bit unbalanced, definitely prefer the regular Eisbock from Kulmbacher.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 WISEGUY572 (1360) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - OCT 3, 2003
UPDATED: FEB 17, 2007 How odd. A big, hoppy German barleywine. Pours a clear copper, with no head and lace that quickly disappears without a trace. Nose is nothing but alcohol. Taste is well, alcohol and hops. Mouth feel is big and round and full. I would have given it a higher OA rating, except that the alcohol content is so high that this one "costs" me two IPAs, which I would like a whole lot better! // rerated when I realized that I poured half of the beer out. Drain pour can’t get a 3.0. This has too much alcohol and too little of anything else. // And tried it again, and if anything less interesting. I no longer sense hops, just alcohol and sugar.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 fly (1357) - austin, Tejas, USA - MAR 18, 2004
Yadda yadda yadda used to sell it - bla bla bla - could grab a bottle from case in winter and drink it - so what? I really didn't appreciate this despite liking so many beers back when. Good friend I worked with brought me one to see what I would think now. Much more appreciated, but overall it seemed like a monochord symphony all about the malt. Glorious malt. Superb malt. Excellent malt. I know there's more to it, but that's what struck me. Were it to incorporate the slightest of another complimentary element I think it could battle for a very high position.
2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 Lou18 (1353) - West Paterson, New Jersey, USA - JUN 18, 2005
Poured almost bright orange. Thick head that faded quickly. Smell was sour and thick, with lots of alcohol. Taste was very much like sryup. Sour , yeast. And strong alcohol. I have had other big beers that hid the high % much better.
