COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Drowning toast in a pool of whisky…Caramel candy is floating around but there isn’t enough to be used as a buoy…A wet log then passes by and allows some dark fruit and sugar to survive and thus stay above the alcohol…

Served in a proper EKU Snifter at Academie de la Biere in Paris. Aroma is sweet of dry fruits and maybe some raspberries with alcohol. Clear amber body with a small head that disappears soon after pouring. Tastes a lot like the Samichlaus I had recently. Drinks a bit like a liquor with a kind of syrupy feel and noticeable alcohol in the taste and stomach, but it is pretty good overall. Not something that you could or would want to drink a lot of.

Nutty brown with hints of red and not much head. Aromas are sweet, syrupy and laced with all that alcohol. Flavours too are boozy with molasses and hints of brandy. The finish is an alcohol infused warming feeling. A decent nightcap.

UPDATED: NOV 19, 2006 Re-rate. 4 year old bottle. Pours candy apple red with an initial white head that quickly dissipates.Smell is of sweet cherries, sugar, some metallic elemenst and mellow alcohol. Taste is of some sweet sugar and malt with warming alchol. Not nearly as cloying as a fresh sample. Finish is light and sweet. The alcohol in this is well masked.

330ml bottle (Johnnies, Rome)
Rich orange, brief fizzy head. Sweet cloying fruity estery aroma, plenty of caramel, but also some dustiness. Anna gets some woodiness. I get some bubblegum. Very estery retronasals, but heading off in the direction of whiteboard markers. Certainly packing an alcoholic punch too, but the caramel reins that in reasonably well. Taste is a fairly woody malt focus, but with the wood there’s some pencil shavings. Finish turns those pencil shavings more into noble hops, and there’s some weird cola nut in the long finish too. I was expecting this to be merely passable, but am positively impressed.

Bottle at d.b.a. Samichlaus like very hazelnutty, intensely liquorous and sweet, bready nose. It pours reddish, clear and with neglectable head. Bockish fruitiness gathers banana, apricot, pineapple and cherry hints. Its best moments are met when peppery flavours kick in with the fruits, but swiftly enough, the overwhelming sweetness has the best of it. Bloody, cheap port-like, medicinal and bubble gummy in mouth, this is almost impossible to drink for me, no bitterness at all, just challenging thick, surprisingly carbonated worty malts.Very challenging to finish.

Slightly dark colour, malt aroma. Bit of crowning white head. Little bitterness.I found this more malty drinkable than the Austrian eisbocks, although still an egg yolk taste in it. Surprisingly high alcohol content that was well hidden. Thanks Biegaman.
