COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This world-famous beer has the character and richness to stand in for fine sherry or port. Just the right degree of sweetness - never cloying; wonderfully aromatic and warming. EKU 28 is the one whenever something good and strong is needed.

Head is initially average sized frothy, off-white, mostly diminishing. Body is clear medium amber. Aroma is moderately malty (molasses, light bread, caramel), with notes of peach, honey, and alcohol. Flavor is heavily sweet. Finish is moderately sweet, lightly bitter, lightly acidic. Full body, syrupy texture, soft carbonation. Ack...corn syrup and vodka in a glass. The aroma is fine aside from the vapors, but still a bit dull.

Deep gold/ light copper color with a slight head. Aroma is of malt and alcohol. Flavor is thick, malty and slightly warming from the high alcohol. Overall slightly cloying due to the high alcohol.

When I started drinking beer I almost immediatly switched to the specialties instead of pilsener. Eku 28 was one of the first and back than I thought it was awfull. To heavy for a 16 year old. Today (18 years later)was the second time. And this time it was not so bad. But still ... I don’t really like it. The aroma is port and fruit but that is not how a fresh beer should smell. It has to age to become like port. It’s amber-orange coloured with few head that disappears quickly. Very sweet and thick, alcohol combined with malts and fruits like over mature peach. The finish is malty with some alcohol bitterness and it lasts quite a while.

Bright orange copper color with a fleeting off white head. Sweet fruit, (oranges, cherries and peaches) malt and ruber aroma. Wafts of alcohol. Oily texture with early sweetness that turns to a lacquer alcohol finish that burns in the mouth. Finish is just too biting and thin (like a shot of jaegemeister) to make this one more enjoyable.

Wow, what an oversite...I have not rated the first beer I legally drank, well time to fix this, served in my Expedition Snifter:

Takes on a rich amber cider hue with a fading head and little lace, oily film does appear and coat the glassware. The aroma has notes of granny smith apples, overripened fig, heavy caramel and crystal malt, butterscotch (but in a good way) and twinge of alcohol vapors. The taste starts with a massive dose of sweetness, malty and sugary. Supported by rich fruits and some pepper upon the finish. There is a hint of bitterness but it is far to subdued to do much good. I don’t think it is a sweet has other raters but still a bit over the top. The feel is warming for sure and does display a medical dryness after awhile. Good brew but not something i wish to have very often, which is better than the shocking first impression I had those twenty three years ago.

Bottle. Sweet plum, brown sugar aroma initially that changes to a sour peach as it warms. Brown-orange-red color with small disappearing head. Sweet plum flavor initially again in the flavor that turn sour for a moment before fading into an astringent alcohol flavor in the finish. The astringency is more typical of the bock style - probably one of the most representative of this style.

Medium orange-gold color, medium head. A medium bodied beer. Malty and slightly sweet. Taste is more like a sherry or port than a beer, but EKU 28 retains its beer character. Nice hop bite. Big bold beer. Mouthfeel is full and expansive. Finish is clean and smooth. Noticeable alcohol bite (11%). Aftertaste is malty and slightly sweet. Slight oily texture to this beer. A bit overpowering.

Bottle (330ml) - best before 21-10-07. Via trade with Biegaman - thanks once again, Jan. Beautiful clear bronze pour with a decent frothy-creamy lasting beige head. Woody sweet toasted malt aroma, light bitter herbal hops, mulchy yeast, developed a strong peach-pit fruit character as it warmed, lovely character, hardly any alcohol noticed. Taste is very fruity - peach, apricot and pineapple - woody, resiny malt with more alcohol and less hop bitterness in the finish than the aroma would indicate - not 11% boozy, but you know it’s there. Slightly thin body, with a slick, astringent, alcoholic mouthfeel and a medium-long mild linger, decent complexity, you can tell this is not a particularly young beer - I like that! Compares quite favorably to Kulmbacher’s other Eisbock.
